MAH CET 2018 Analysis and Expected Cut off's

MAH CET 2018 will be held on 10th & 11th March 2018. It is a state level exam which is conducted by Maharashtra's Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) for admission into the MMS/MBA programs offered by the affiliated B- Schools. MAH CET is a time sensitive test. 200 questions have to be attempted in 150 minutes, with no sectional time limits.

The logical reasoning section receives the most focus in this exam. 50% of the paper comprises questions from logical reasoning (including abstract reasoning). In order to ace this exam it is essential to have a good grip over the reasoning section. The other two sections carry the same weightage and are fairly easy for a serious aspirant who has prepared for other MBA entrances like CAT, XAT etc.

The pattern of MAH CET for the exam held in 2016 and 2017 is as follows:

Section

No of Questions

Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension

50

Quantitative Aptitude

50

Logical Reasoning

75

Abstract Reasoning

25

Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension

There are 2 RC passages (usually) in the section. The passages are short, easy to read, and the questions are direct in nature. Also, there are synonyms and antonyms type of questions from the passage. The remainder of the section comprises cloze test, FIBs, para jumbles, spot the error, re-phrasing the faulty part of a sentence, and vocab based questions. The overall difficulty level of this section is easy to moderate. One can target 25-30 accurate attempts in this section.

Quantitative Aptitude

There is no set trend for this section. Last year a major portion of the questions were from Data Interpretation while the year before majority of questions was from arithmetic. The areas which have been consistent irrespective of the no of questions are arithmetic, data interpretation, and modern math. Overall the difficulty level of this section is moderate to difficult. One should be able to identify between lengthy questions and sitters and attempt accordingly. An attempt of 35-40 questions in this section is considered a good attempt.

Logical Reasoning/ Abstract Reasoning

The game changing section of the paper, logical reasoning covers various topics ranging from arrangements to sequence & series. Questions appear from linear arrangement, circular arrangement, selection, letter based inequality, input/output, coding/decoding, syllogism, data sufficiency, directions, and blood relations. There are questions from visual reasoning as well. The difficulty level for most of the questions is easy to moderate. The two sections are constituted together, as the topics are overlapping and questions can appear, from a topic, in either of the sections. There is no set demarcation. 20-22 questions are easy in terms of difficulty and, should be identified and attempted accurately. The target should be to attempt 70-74 questions out of the 100 questions.
For MAH CET 2018, the paper can be expected to be on similar lines as last year. The cut off will be in the range of 140-145 for JBIMS. The paper is most probably going to be easy to moderate with the game changer section being Logical Reasoning again.

A serious MAH CET aspirant must be aware of the importance that the Logical Reasoning section holds in this exam. To prepare effectively, one needs to practice similar questions as many as possible. Furthermore, there is no negative marking for a wrong answer.  After maximizing genuine attempts, a candidate can mark the same option choice for the rest of the questions as it increases the probability for some of them being correct.

CL extends best wishes to all MAH CET aspirants!
