The Civil Services Examinationis an all India level exam conducted by the Union Public Service Commission for recruitment to various Civil Services of the Government of India, including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and Indian Revenue Service (IRS).
Age Limit: 21 to 32 years (as on August 01 of the year of examination)
(Prescribed age limits vary with respect to caste reservations)
Number of attempts: General category = 6, OBC category = 7 and SC/ST candidates = unlimited (till 37 years of age)
The exam is conducted in two phases - preliminary and main examination followed by interview.

Preliminary Exam
Civil Services Preliminary exam comprises of two compulsory papers:
General Studies Paper Ievaluates candidate's knowledge on current events, history of India, Indian and world geography, Indian polity and governance, economic and social development, environmental ecology and general science.
General Studies Paper II, popularly known as CSAT,tests candidates on their comprehension, interpersonal, logical and analytical skills.
Paper IIis qualifying in nature i.e. it is not considered for eligibility in Mainexamination.Minimum qualifying marks for paper-II is 33%.

Interview (Personality Test)
