Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management (SJMSOM), established in 1995, is a part of the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. In honour of Dr. Shailesh J. Mehta, the school was renamed to Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management in the year 2000. SJMSOM offers the following programmes in management:

    Eligibility for Master of Management Programme

    Applicant must satisfy one of the following:


    • A four year Bachelor's degree or a Master's degree in any discipline with first class or 60% marks (55% in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST category) in aggregate (including all years/semesters) or a minimum CPI of 6.5 (6 in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST category) out of 10 , from the universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.
    • CA/ICWA, with a first-class Bachelor's Degree in any discipline having secured 60% marks (55% in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST category) in aggregate (including all years/semesters) or a minimum CPI of 6.5 (6 in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST category) out of 10.
    • Those appearing for the final degree examination can also apply. The admission in such cases will be subject to their fulfilling the minimum eligibility criteria as stated in (1) or (2) at the time of joining the course.

    Eligibility for Executive MBA Programme

    • The candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree or equivalent from an institution of higher education. He/she must have a minimum seven years of work experience (after completing the qualifying degree) including five years of managerial experience or equivalent.
    • The candidate must be recommended by their employer with a commitment of employer sponsorship, or self-employed with an ability to pay the applicable tuition fees.
    • He/she must have functional computer skills and good proficiency in spoken and written English.

    Eligibility for Doctoral Programme

    At least one of the following criteria has to be met:


    • B.E/B.Tech or equivalent degree with 60% marks/6.5 CPI (55% marks/6.0 CPI for SC/ST) and at least two years of work experience and qualified in GATE/UGC-NET (Lectureship)/UGC-JRF/CSIR-NET (Lectureship)/CSIR-JRF or havin CAT/GMAT/GRE score within the last five years.
    • Master of Management /ME/M.Tech/M.Phil/2 years MBA or 2-year PG Diploma in Management from any institute recognized by a Government body (AICTE/UGC/AIU) with 60% marks/6.5 CPI (55% marks/6.0 CPI for SC/ST).
    • M.Sc/M. A/ M.Com/LLM/MCA or equivalent degree with 60% marks/6.5 CPI (55% marks/6.0 CPI for SC/ST) at post-graduation level and qualified in GATE/UGC-NET Lectureship (LS)/UGC-JRF/CSIR-NET Lectureship/CSIR-JRF or having CAT/GMAT/GRE taken within the last five years.
    • CA with 60% marks/6.5 CPI (55% marks/6.0 CPI for SC/ST) in the preceding degree.

  • For Master of Management Programme
    1. 1. Candidates are shortlisted on the basis of their score in the CAT exam (GMAT for international applicants).
    2. 2. The shortlisted candidates are then invited to appear for the Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview

    1. 1. Candidates applying to the Doctoral Program at SJMSOM are required to submit a sample of their recently published writings on relevant topics or a 1500-word proposal on the proposed area of research.

    The shortlist of candidates to be called for appearing in the WAT (Written Ability Test) and PI (Personal Interview) will be on the basis of their composite score computed based on several factors as detailed below.

    Maximum of 10 times of available number of seats in each category will be shortlisted for the WAT/PI process.

    Academic Profile:

    The weightage for academic profile will be based on the performance in 10th standard, 12th standard and Graduation degree
    The score in 12th standard will be awarded to the candidates will depend on their streams (Science, Commerce, Arts and Humanities)

    The Score in Graduation degree will be awarded to the candidates based on the marks obtained in the Graduation Programme and also based on the discipline of their course.

    The graduates are broadly divided into 2 categories and the score awarded will be based the category candidate belongs to.

    Discipline 1:

    BE/B.TECH/B.Arch./BCA/B.Plan.


    4 Year Bachelor's degree in Commerce/ Economics (Accountancy, Auditing, Banking, Business Administration, Business Mathematics, Business Organisation, Economics (all degrees), Economic Development and Planning, Finance, Insurance, Investment Analysis, Public Finance, Secretarial Practices etc.), Hotel & Tourism Management. Vocational Degree in Commerce (B. Com).
    All BS/BSC (Excluding Journalism), B.Pharma, BN (Bachelor Of Nursing), B.STAT, BDS. BA (Mathematics and Statistics, Economics, Geography and Geological Sciences)


    Discipline 2:

    MBBS
    B.Des/ BFTech, LLB.


    All Arts and Humanities related 4 year Bachelor's degree in:
    Arts/Humanities (Education, Fine Arts (Dance, Drama, Film, Music, Painting etc.), History, Journalism, Languages, Library Science, Literature, Mass Communication, Media Studies, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Public Administration, Social Work/Welfare, Sociology, etc.)

    Note:

    If the duration of the Bachelor's degree is less than 4 years, the candidate must have a Master's degree.
    Master's degree holders will be classified into one of these 2 disciplines on the basis of their subjects/ fields in their Bachelor's degree programme.
