  • In CAT 2022, an SC candidate got into IIM-I at a cutoff of 71.36 %ile while the minimum requirement for a GEM fresher was 99.89 %ile.
  • 1 out of every 3 CAT 2023 applicants belonged to the reserved category.
  • 3 out of every 5 seats at IIMs are for the reserved category students.
  • To get into IIM Bangalore, a student from the SC/ST category needs to get only 10 questions correct out of 66 (As per CAT 2022).

While the admission criteria differ from one B-school to another, almost all B-schools have a reservation policy to provide candidates of the Reserved Categories with equal opportunities as the General Category.

B-school cutoffs for the SC/ST/OBC/EWS Category are often lower than the General Category.

  • For SC/ST category students, final selection at premier IIMs may happen at just 71 %ile.
  • OBC(NC) and EWS category students have secured admission to IIM Indore with 86 %ile.

Reserved category students have a better opportunity of getting into top B-schools owing to the reservation criteria set by the Government of India.

  • Less than half of the EWS and ST category seats get filled for IIMs.
  • 27% of the total seats are reserved for OBC Students in top B-Schools.

  • SC Category candidates have a high probability of getting a call from IIM Ahmedabad at 73.98 %ile, while General Category aspirants have a low probability at 99.55 %ile.
