Participating in case discussions in NMAT is vital as this round takes 20 to 30 minutes on average. Its primary purpose is to assess the basic skills in job-related teamwork skills among the candidates. In this case, during the case discussion, the candidates read out an actual business management situation or case. They need to evaluate it, justify the possible course of action, and come to an agreement with their peers from the group. This activity allows evaluation of the overall persona of the candidate along with the problem-solving aptitude, communication effectiveness, leadership skills, team player and critical analysis.

To excel in the NMAT Case Discussion, consider the following tips:

• Understand the Case: Thus, one should begin by carefully considering all the information provided in the case. Do not delve straight into the discussions without first focusing on details, finding out what the major concern is and understanding the communication environment.
• Active Participation: In class, always participate effectively by contributing good points and ideas. Demonstrate clear thinking, critical assessment, problem-solving and successful cooperation within a team.
• Listen Actively: Keep your ears open for what others have to say about the matter. Listen to and respect all participants’ ideas and be considerate to suggest ideas that help build on the ideas of others.
• Meaningful Contributions: Punctuality is the key here. In 15 minutes, write two or three post ideas that have weight and substance.
• Time Management: Be careful with time duration while preparing for the group discussion, and do not let others take all the time. Do not talk excessively or fail to speak for a long time while the group is still discussing; candidates should learn how to maintain a balance between the both.
