When should I start preparing for IPMAT and why?
Now that's an achievement!. Post clearing the IPMAT, the shortlisted candidates are called for a Written Ability Test (WAT) & Personal Interview (PI) round. Apart from IIM Indore, Nirma University too accepts IPMAT scores for admission to its BBA-MBA integrated programme. The paper will test your quantitative ability(Through MCQs and Short Answer questions) and verbal ability(MCQs). We bring you this article to help you to properly plan your preparation for the IPMAT.
IPMAT is not considered a very difficult examination. Mostly aspirants start with their preparation after their board examinations as it takes precedence. A student might also be preparing for some other examination like JEE for engineering, etc. This happens because mostly, students are not sure about what to choose for higher education as they have a lot of options in front of them. This is where you have an advantage. If you have decided that IPM is your calling, then waste no time and start your preparation now!
An ideal time to start is 10 to 12 months before the examination. This will give you sufficient time to proceed in a steady manner with a little or no pressure at all. January and February will be devoted to your board examination. Hence, you will lose 2 - 3 months from your preparation for IPMAT because of your boards. That will be manageable as you will have a sufficient head start compared to other test takers. The verbal section will consist of reading comprehension, para jumbles, vocabulary and logical completion of paragraphs. It is worth noting that an eclectic reading habit will help you in all these types of questions. You must develop the habit of reading newspapers and novels early in your life. This will not only help you with your examination and build a strong vocabulary, but will also develop you as a person. Next, the quantitative ability can also be conquered with regular practice.
Hence, we would suggest you to start as early as 10 to 12 months before the examination, be regular and focus on your IPMAT preparation. You may begin later, but that would add unnecessary pressure upon you. Also, note that writing a sufficient number of mock tests is of prime significance. The mock tests will give you the feel of the real examination and will help you understand your strengths and weaknesses.
