How Can a Student Choose Suitable Subjects for CUET?

To choose subjects for your CUET exam, focus on the courses and colleges where you want to secure admission. Different universities can have different subject requirements for the same course, so knowing this is important to make the right choices. Here’s a simple way to go about it:

Research Your Target Courses and Colleges:

Make a list of the courses you’re interested in and the universities where you want to register for counselling & admission.

Check the specific CUET subject combination requirements for each course at each university. Some might ask for certain subjects, so take note of these.

Pick Core Subjects Based on Your Course:

Choose subjects that are directly related to the course you’re interested in. For example, taking Psychology as a domain subject (if available) would be a good choice if you want to study Psychology. If you’re interested in Economics, then Economics should be on your list. Also, remember that the University of Delhi only considers subjects you studied in class XII. So, while selecting the subjects for CUET, be mindful of that fact.

Add relevant subjects that could work for multiple courses or colleges you’re considering.

Include the Required Language Test:

CUET requires you to pick at least one language. Choose the language you’re most comfortable with. English is a popular choice, but you can also pick a regional language if that aligns with the course or college requirements.

Consider the General Test:

The General Test is optional but can be a good choice if the colleges or courses you’re interested in accept it. It covers general knowledge, logical reasoning, and current affairs, which can help boost your overall score.

Select Backup or Extra Subjects (Up to 6 Total):

You can choose a maximum of 6 subjects, so after picking your main subjects and language, you can add extra subjects that might open up more options. If you’re strong in subjects like Math, Physics, or Biology, these could work as backups and might be useful for certain colleges.

Play to Your Strengths:

Finally, choose subjects you feel confident in. Your scores matter, so picking subjects you’re good at will help you perform better overall.

By carefully picking subjects that match the requirements of your desired courses and colleges, you’ll be better prepared and have more options. This way, you can aim for success in your CUET and keep multiple pathways open!
