What Are the Question Types in CUET (UG), and How Can Students Prepare?

The Common University Entrance Test (CUET - UG) is a national-level entrance exam for UG admissions to 45+ central and a total of 280+ participating universities. The CUET university list comprises top universities like DU, BHU, JNU, JMI, AMU, Hyderabad University, and University of Allahabad, among many others.


The section-wise patterns and types of CUET questions are briefly discussed below.


Section I: Language Test (13 languages)

> Questions will assess your proficiency in the selected language (like English, Hindi, etc.).

> Primary topics for questions in language papers include reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and verbal reasoning.

> Reading comprehension: There will be passages or poem extracts with questions about main ideas, tone, and vocabulary.

> Grammar: Error detection, sentence improvement, one-word substitution, and fill-in-the-blanks.

> Vocabulary: Synonyms, antonyms, and word usage.

> There will be 50 questions, which will be 60 minutes long.

> All the questions will be compulsory.

Section II: Domain-Specific Test (23 subjects)

> The syllabus for all the domain-specific subjects is the complete NCERT class 12 syllabus.

> Questions might come from any corner of the textbook. One must thoroughly cover all the topics and sub-topics of the NCERT syllabus for the particular subjects.

> Basic concepts: Perception, cognition, learning, and memory.

> Research methods: Observation, experimentation, and statistics basics.

> Applications: Mental ability, contextualisation, and real-world usage.

> There will be 50 questions, which will be compulsory.

> The duration of the test will be 60 minutes.

> It will be a computer-based online test.


Section III: General Aptitude Test (GAT)

> Primary topics from which questions are asked in the GAT paper include general knowledge, logical reasoning, quantitative aptitude, and current affairs.

> Logical reasoning: Series, analogies, and puzzles.

> Mathematics: Percentages, ratios, probability, and graphs.

> Current affairs: Major national and international events.

> General knowledge: History, geography, sports, and Indian culture.

> There will be 60 compulsory questions, which students need to solve in 60 minutes.
