What's the NEWS
- Union Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs laid the foundation stone for Union Territory (UT) Level Emergency Operation Centre and SCADA control building at Budgam, Kashmir under the Jhelum and Tawi Flood Recovery Project (JTFRP) during her visit to the UT of Jammu and Kashmir.
- The sub-projects are part of the Jhelum and Tawi Flood Recovery Project (JTFRP) which is assisted by a credit of $250 million from the World Bank.
- The project was started in Jammu and Kashmir in the aftermath of the devastating floods of September 2014
- It has been under implementation by Government of J&K as part of the Hon'ble Prime Minister's Development Package (PMDP) for J&K since its effective date of 19.04.2016.
- The project aims at both restoring essential services disrupted by the floods and improving the design standard and practices to increase resilience.
- One major recent achievement of the project has been the enlistment of Srinagar city in the UNESCO world creative cities network.
- Srinagar became one of the 49 cities worldwide to join the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) under the Craft & Folk Arts category which is a moment of pride for all Indians.
- JTFRP is developing the latest scientific tool of decision support system (DSS) for effective disaster management.
- The development of the DSS by the JTFRP involves the preparation of a computer-aided system, a scientific tool for the effective information management and coordination among various emergency service departments during any natural disaster.
- The project will focus on restoring critical infrastructure using international best practice on resilient infrastructure.
- Given the region's vulnerability to both floods and earthquakes, the infrastructure will be designed with upgraded resilient features, and will include contingency planning for future disaster events.
- It is a river that flows through the city of Jammu.
- Tawi river originates from the lap of Kailash Kund glacier and adjoining area southwest of Bhadarwah in Doda district,
- The Tawi is a major left bank tributary of the river Chenab.
- The length of Tawi river is about 141 km
- After traversing Jammu city, the river crosses into Pakistan's Punjab and joins Chenab river.
- It flows from the Indian-administered territory of Jammu and Kashmir, through the Pakistani-administered territory of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir, and into Pakistani Punjab.
- It is the westernmost of the five rivers of the Punjab region, and passes through the Kashmir Valley.
- It is a tributary of the Chenab River and has a total length of about 725 kilometres

- The Union Minister of Home Affairs performed Bhoomi Pujan of Rani Gaidinliu Tribal Freedom Fighters Museum in Manipur
Know! about Rani Gaidinliu
- She was a Naga spiritual and political leader who led a revolt against British rule in India.
- Rani Gaidinliu was born in a village in Manipur
- She joined Jadonang's Independence movement at the age of 13 and her two-year association prepared her to become a Freedom Fighter against the British.
- At the age of 13, she joined the Heraka religious movement of her cousin Haipou Jadonang.
- The movement later turned into a political movement seeking to drive out the British from Manipur and the surrounding Naga areas.
- Within the Heraka faith, she came to be considered an incarnation of the Goddess Cherachamdinliu.
- Gaidinliu was arrested in 1932 at the age of 16, and was sentenced to life imprisonment by the British rulers.
- Jawaharlal Nehru met her at Shillong Jail in 1937, and promised to pursue her release.
- Nehru gave her the title of "Rani" ("Queen"), and she gained local popularity as Rani Gaidinliu.
- She was released in 1947 after India's independence, and continued to work for the upliftment of her people.
- She was honoured as a freedom fighter and was awarded a Padma Bhushan by the Government of India.
- Living in the remote hills of the Northeast, a little girl challenged the world's largest empire.
- The Prime Minister also released Rs. 5 and Rs. 100 coins on the occasion of her birth centenary celebrations.
- The Indian Coast Guard has honored her by naming a patrol boat in her name on October 19, 2016.
- On August 15, 2016, the Prime Minister had announced that our government would build Tribal Freedom Fighters Museums in various states
- Such museums are about to come up in Gujarat, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana and Manipur.
- Many freedom fighters of Manipur fought against the British in the state and made the country proud.
- Maharaja Kulchandra Singh of Manipur and his companions were imprisoned for years on Mount Harriot in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands after being sentenced.
- The Maharaja of Manipur, Shri Kulchandra Singh, with his courage and valour, began the fight against the British in the Northeast.
- The government renamed Mount Harriet as Mount Manipur in his memory to pay tribute to Maharaja Kulchandra Singh and all the freedom fighters of Manipur.
- Many freedom fighters like Baba Tilka Manjhi, Siddho Kanu, Chand Bhairav, Telanga Khadia, Shankar Shah and Raghunath Shah of Madhya Pradesh, Seth Bhikhari, Ganpat Rai, Umrao Singh Tikait, Vishwanath Sahdev, Nilambar Pitambar, Narayan Singh, Jatra Oraon, Jadonang and Raj Mohan Devi fought the British tooth and nail on different occasions.
- Bhagwan Birsa Munda, was the first person to raise voice for freedom in the country.
UNESCO-ABU Peace Media Awards 2021

- TV and Radio shows produced by Doordarshan and All India Radio respectively got multiple awards at the recently held ABU - UNESCO Peace Media Awards 2021 at Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.
- The awards were given by UNESCO in collaboration with Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) under ‘Together for Peace' (T4P) initiative.
- The award giving ceremony was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on November 17, 2021.
- More than hundred inspiring stories of individuals and communities were received from 33 countries across 5 continents.
- The competition was open for Radio, TV, and digital platforms.
- The ABU-UNESCO T4P Media Awards highlight and promote crucial role of independent, ethical journalism and citizens' media literacy for building positive peace in human minds.
- The Awards honour innovative and creative content, which informs and educates audiences on best practices of building positive peace that have increasing urgency in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and building back better from the COVID-19 pandemic.
All India Survey on Domestic Workers

- Union Minister for Labour and Employment flagged off the first ever All All India Survey on Domestic workers being conducted by Labour Bureau, Chandigarh.
- Domestic workers (DWs) constitute a significant portion of total employment in the informal sector. However, there is a dearth of data on the magnitude and prevailing employment conditions of DW.
- Hence with the view to have time series data on domestic workers, Government of India has entrusted Labour Bureau to conduct an all-India survey on DWs.
- It will cover 37states/UT's and 742 Districts across the length and breadth of the country.
- It is aimed to estimate the number and proportion of domestic workers at National and State level, percentage distribution of domestic workers with respect to Live-in/Live-out, formal/ Informal Employment, Migrant/Non-Migrant, their wages and other socio-economic characteristics.
- The survey will also provide the Household Estimates of Live-in/Live-out domestic workers and average number of domestic workers engaged by different types of households.
- Estimate the number/proportion of DWs at National and State level.
- Household Estimates of Live-in/ Live-out DWs.
- Average number of DWs engaged by different types of households.
- All India States/UTs of India covered are 37 and Districts covered are742
- Unit of Enumeration is Villages as per Census 2011 and Urban Blocks as per latest phase of UFS.
- At the all-India level, a total number of 12766 First Stage Units (FSUs) i.e., 6190 villages and 6576 UFS blocks will be covered in the survey.
- 1,50,000 Households i.e., the Ultimate Stage Units (USU) will be covered.
India's first Virtual Science Lab for children under CSIR Jigyasa programme

- Union Minister of Science & Technology launched India's first Virtual Science Lab for children under CSIR Jigyasa programme, which will also connect students with scientists across the country.
- CSIR has partnered with IIT Bombay to develop a Virtual Lab platform under CSIR Jigyasa programme, which facilitates classroom learning with laboratory research for school students.
- The target audience for the Virtual Lab platform is students of the standard VI to XII (11-18 years) who would like to explore science using different activities, experienced researchers and faculties on the subjects of Science, Mathematics, Biology and IT.
- The main aim of the Virtual Lab is to provide quality research exposure and innovative pedagogy for school students to drive their scientific curiosity based on an online interactive medium with simulated experiments, pedagogy based content, videos, chat forums, animations, gaming, quiz, facility sharing, webinars etc.
- The CSIR Virtual lab will therefore enable curiosity driven research based concepts, encourage higher order thinking skills, promote entrepreneurship and develop passion about science
- The Virtual lab would provide a virtual tour of CSIR laboratories and expose students to research infrastructure
- The platform will also have the option to interact with scientists and seek their inputs or clear student's doubts.

- The "Jigyasa" since its launch in 2017, was successful in connecting nearly 3,00,000 students and more than 5,000 teachers with CSIR and they have benefited directly through visits to CSIR labs.
- Majority of the CSIR labs are participating in this program and subsequently MoU has been signed with JawaharNavodayaVidyalayas and also with Atal Tinkering Labs of NITI AAYOG.
