National Land Monetization Corporation (NLMC)
What's the NEWS
- The Union Cabinet has approved setting up of National Land Monetization Corporation (NLMC) as a wholly owned Government of India company with an initial authorized share capital of Rs 5,000 crore and paid-up share capital of Rs 150 crore.
- NLMC will undertake monetization of surplus land and building assets of Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) and other Government agencies.
- The proposal is in pursuance of the Budget Announcement for 2021-22
- NLMC would be administered by a Board of Directors.
- The proposed Board structure envisages a mix of senior government officials and eminent professionals in the field of real estate, banking, investment banking, construction, legal and related fields.
- Incorporation of NLMC is underway which is being steered by Department of Public Enterprises, Ministry of Finance
a. To undertake professional and orderly monetization of land and other non- core assets referred to it.
b. To own, hold, manage and monetize land and building assets of CPSEs under closure and surplus land and buildings of 100% GoI owned CPSEs under strategic disinvestment.
c. To advise and support monetization of surplus land assets of
i. Demerged companies holding surplus land
ii. Other CPSEs
d. To advise and assist government departments, statutory bodies/ authorities, autonomous bodies, corporations, etc. on monetisation of surplus and under- utilized non-core assets.
e. To identify surplus land and building assets to create an inventory for monetization in consultation with CPSEs/other government agencies.
f. To build a capable organisation with skill and competencies to enable speedier and efficient monetisation which can generate maximum value from government assets.
g. To act as a repository of best practices in land monetization, assist and provide expert technical advice to DPE / DIPAM /Government of India in implementation of asset monetisation program.

What's the NEWS
- The Prime Minister virtually addressed 'Matua Dharma Maha Mela 2022 at ShreedhamThakurnagar in West Bengal, on the occasion of 211th birth anniversary of Harichand Thakur ji
- It is being organised by All India Matua Mahasangha
- Harichand Thakur devoted his life to the cause of betterment of the oppressed, downtrodden, and deprived persons in undivided Bengal during the pre-independence era.
- The social and religious movement started by him originated from Orakandi (now in Bangladesh) in 1860 and led to the formation of the Matua Dharma
- He worked among the untouchable people of Bengal Presidency.
- He formed the Matua sect of Hindus.
- He was well-known in the locality as a very religious person who has magical power. Eventually, he founded a sect of Vaishnavite Hinduism called Matua.
- He did not believe in asceticism and preached the word of God staying within the family.
- According to him, the best ascetic is the person who can express his devotion to God remaining a family man
- His newly founded Matua religion is based on only three basic principles - Truth, Love, and Sanity.
- He completely rejected the sermons of earlier Hindu saints which described the household as an illusion and family as the main obstacle on the path of attaining salvation.
- He formulated his new Matua religion by combining the work with religion.
Instrumented Electronic Warfare Range (IEWR)
What's the NEWS
- The Ministry of Defence (MoD) of India and Bharat Electronics Limited, Hyderabad signed a Contract for Instrumented Electronic Warfare Range (IEWR) for the Indian Air Force
- The contract is a significant step towards enhancing the capabilities of IAF to prepare for future warfare.
- The overall cost of the contract is estimated to be â¹ 1109 Cr.
- The IEWR will be used to test and evaluate airborne Electronic Warfare (EW) equipment and validate their deployment in an Operational Scenario.
Advanced Electronic Warfare suite for Fighter Aircraft
What's the NEWS
- The Ministry of Defence and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) concluded a Contract for supply of Advanced Electronic Warfare (EW) suite for Fighter aircraft of Indian Air Force.
- The overall cost of the contract is estimated to be â¹ 1993 Cr.
- The supply of advanced EW systems will significantly enhance the battle-survivability of IAF fighter aircraft while undertaking operational missions against adversaries' ground-based as well as airborne fire control and surveillance radars.
- The EW suite has been indigenously designed & developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
INAS 316
What's the NEWS
- Indian Naval Air Squadron 316, Indian Navy's second P-8I aircraft squadron has been commissioned into the Indian Navy
- INAS 316 has been christened ‘Condors' which are one of the largest flying land birds with a massive wingspan.
- The insignia of the squadron depicts a 'Condor' searching over the vast blue expanse of the sea.
- ‘Condors' are known for excellent sensory capabilities, powerful and sharp talons and large massive wings symbolising the capabilities of the aircraft and envisaged roles of the squadron.
- INAS 316 will operate the Boeing P-8I aircraft, a multi-role Long Range Maritime Reconnaissance Anti-Submarine Warfare (LRMR ASW) aircraft, that can be equipped with a range of Air-to-Ship Missiles and Torpedoes.
- The 'Game Changer' aircraft is a potent platform for Maritime Surveillance and strike, Electronic warfare missions, Search and Rescue, providing targeting data to Weapon platforms, providing time-critical surveillance information for IA and IAF and is also the platform of choice for detecting and neutralising enemy ships and submarines in Indian Ocean Region.
- The squadron has been specifically commissioned to be the home for the four new P-8I aircraft procured under the Option Clause contract and to ‘Deter, Detect and Destroy' any threat in the IOR.
- These aircraft have been operating from Hansa since 30 Dec 2021 and the squadron is integrated with full spectrum surface and subsurface Naval Operations.
Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Amendment) Bill, 2022
What's the NEWS
- The Lok Sabha passed a bill to amend a constitutional order to include Darlong, a tribal clan in Tripura which was among the generic Halam community till now, in the list of Scheduled Tribes (ST).
- The Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Amendment) Bill, 2022, was an amendment to the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order, 1950.
- The Bill,sought to include the Darlong community as a sub-tribe of the Kuki tribal community in the list of Scheduled Tribes.
- The move comes months after Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb sought from the Centre to include this tribal community as a sub-tribe of the Kukis in official documents.
- Darlong is a tribal community of Tripura, which has a population of 11,000.
- Despite its small population, the community has a high prevalence of education and cultural activities and members of the community serve in senior positions in the local administration.
- Tripura has 19 tribal communities, people of which live in The Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council formed on January 18, 1982.
- The tribal council covers nearly 70 per cent of the total area of Tripura and houses roughly 30 per cent of the state's population.
- A large majority of them still depend on slash and burn cultivation and traditional livelihood for sustenance.
- The tribal communities of the state include Tripuri or Debbarma, Reangs or Brus, Jamatia, Noatia, Uchoi, Chakma, Mog, Lushai, Kuki, Munda, Kour, Oram, Santhal, Bhul, Bhutia, Chaimar or Sermai, Garo, Khasi, Lepcha and Halam.
- The Halam community has several small tribal clans within it. Many of these are linguistically endangered groups like Bongcher, Karbongs etc.
- The Lok Sabha passed a Bill to include the Darlong community as a sub-tribe of the Kuki tribe on the list of Scheduled Tribes of Tripura.
Sagar Parikrama
What's the NEWS
- The Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India has launched the ‘Sagar Parikrama' program on the occasion of 75th Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
- Sagar Parikrama program is being organized through a pre-decided sea route covering coastal states/UTs.
- The Phase -I programme of ‘Sagar Parikrama' has been organized in Gujarat, started on 5thMarch, 2022 from Mandvi and ended on 6th March 2022 at Porbandar, Gujarat.
- facilitate interaction with fishermen, coastal communities and stakeholders so as to disseminate information of various fisheries related schemes and programs being implemented by the Government,
- demonstrating solidarity with all fisher folk, fish farmers and concerned stakeholder's as a spirit of Aatmanirbhar Bharat
- promote responsible fisheries with focus on sustainable balance between the utilization of marine fisheries resources for food security of nation and livelihoods of coastal fisher communities, and
- protection of marine ecosystems. ‘Sagar Parikrama' program envisages to cover the maritime States/UTs in a phased manner.
- It aims to resolve the issues of the fishers and other stakeholders and to facilitate their economic up-liftment through various fisheries schemes and programs being implemented by the Government of India, such as ‘Pradhan Mantri MatsyaSampada Yojana' (PMMSY) a flagship scheme with highest ever estimated investment of Rs.20,050 crore in fisheries sector, ‘Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund' (FIDF) of Rs. 7522.48 crore to provide concessional finance to eligible entities, and the facility of Kisan Credit Card (KCC) which has been extended for fishers and fish farmers.
Legal Services Clinic in Collaboration with DSLSA
What's the NEWS
- In a move to make legal aid more accessible for women, the National Commission for Women (NCW)in collaboration with Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA) has launched a legal aid clinic which will act as a single-window facility for resolving grievances of women by offering them free legal assistance.
- NCW is also planning to set up similar legal services clinics in other State Commissions for Women.
- The legal aid clinic will operate out of the Commission's office in New Delhi.
- Any woman will be able to walk-in to the facility for accessing free legal advice and counseling where legal services advocates in the panel of DSLSA will help women.
- The aid centre aims to provide free advice and legal services to women.
- The legal aid clinic will focus on protecting women's rights and providing them with a one-stop centre for seeking legal counseling and help.
- Under the new legal aid clinic, counseling will be provided for walk-in complainants, women in distress will be given legal assistance, advice and information on various schemes of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA)/ DSLSA
