What's the NEWS

  • Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) launched ‘SVANidhi se Samriddhi' program in additional 126 cities across 14 States/ UTs
SVANidhi se Samriddhi
  • It is an additional program of PMSVANidhi was launched on 4th January 2021 in 125 cities in Phase 1, covering approximately 35 Lakh Street vendors and their families.
  • MoHUA has been implementing Prime Minister Street Vendors AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi), a Central Sector Scheme since 1st June 2020.
  • The scheme aims to provide an affordable working capital loan to Street Vendors and has successfully crossed the 30 Lakh mark.
  • SVANidhi se Samriddhi program was started to provide social security benefits to street vendors for their holistic development and socio-economic upliftment.
The program has two-fold achievements:
  1. A central database of Street vendors and their families is created on various socio-economic indicators.
  2. A first of its kind inter-ministerial convergence platform is established between various Central Ministries to extend safety net of welfare schemes to street vendor households.
  • Under the program, socio-economic profiling of PMSVANidhi beneficiaries and their families is conducted to assess their eligibility for 8 Government of India's welfare schemes and facilitate sanctions of eligible schemes.
These schemes include
  1. Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana,
  2. PM Suraksha Bima Yojana,
  3. Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana,
  4. Registration under Building and other Constructions Workers (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act (BOCW),
  5. Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan Yojana,
  6. National Food Security Act (NFSA) portability benefit - One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC),
  7. Janani Suraksha Yojana, and
  8. Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY)

 

  • Quality Council of India (QCI) is the implementing partner for the programme.

What's the NEWS

  • Prime Minister will inaugurate the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya on 14th April
  • The Sangrahalaya, being inaugurated during the celebration of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, tells the story of India after Independence through the lives and contributions of its Prime Ministers.
  • To honour the contribution of all the Prime Ministers of India towards nation building, the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya is a tribute to every Prime Minister of India since Independence, irrespective of their ideology or tenure in office.
  • It is aimed at sensitizing and inspiring the younger generation about the leadership, vision and achievements of all our Prime Ministers.

ARMY CHIEF INDUCTS INDIGENOUSLY DEVELOPED SPECIALIST VEHICLES INTO SERVICE

 

What's the NEWS

  • The Army Chief inducted the first set of indigenously developed Quick Reaction Fighting Vehicle Medium (QRFV), Infantry Protected Mobility Vehicle (IPMV), Ultra Long Range Observation System developed by Tata Advanced System Limited (TASL) and Monocoque Hull Multi Role Mine Protected Armoured Vehicle developed by Bharat Forge.
  • The induction of these indigenously developed Systems by TASL and Bharat Forge would greatly enhance the operational capabilities of Indian Army in future conflicts.

India - Australia Maritime Patrol Reconnaissance Aircraft (Mpra) Coordinated Operations

What's the NEWS

  • P8I Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Aircraft of the Indian Navy have arrived at Darwin, Australia.
  • The team from the Indian Navy's maritime patrol squadron, Albatross, is scheduled to engage with its counterparts from the 92 Wing of the Royal Australian Air Force.
  • P8 aircraft from both the countries, would be conducting coordinated operations in Anti-Submarine Warfare and surface surveillance, to enhance maritime domain awareness.
  • In recent times, increased interaction between the two maritime nations, through bilateral and multilateral exercises at sea, has enhanced inter-operability and fostered bridges of friendship.
  • The P8 aircraft, with their demonstrated long reach, have operated jointly during Malabar and AUSINDEX series of exercises, and have a common understanding of operating procedures and information sharing.
  • The maritime waters between Indonesia and Northern Australia is an area of mutual interest to both countries, being a gateway into the Indian Ocean Region.
  • Both India and Australia share strategic interests, promoting a free and open Indo- Pacific and rules based order in the region.

 

Maritime surveillance and anti-submarine warfare P-8I aircraft

  • The first of these aircraft was inducted in 2013, and it made India the first country outside the United States to get one.
  • The Navy has been receiving them regularly since.
  • The aircraft is designed for "long-range anti-submarine warfare (ASW), anti-surface warfare (ASuW), and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) missions
  • It is a "multi-mission aircraft" with "state of the art sensors, proven weapons systems, and a globally recognised platform".
  • Apart from India and the US, it has been chosen by six other militaries in the world.
  • The aircraft has two variants - the P-8I, which is manufactured for the Indian Navy, and the P-8A Poseidon, which is flown by the US Navy, the United Kingdom's Royal Air Force, the Royal Australian Air Force, and the Royal Norwegian Air Force.
  • It has also been selected by the Royal New Zealand Air Force, the Republic of Korea Navy, and the German Navy.
  • The P-8 is a "multi-mission maritime patrol aircraft, excelling at anti-submarine warfare; anti-surface warfare; intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance and search and rescue".

What's the NEWS

  • Jigyasa, the quest for knowledge, a quiz competition to celebrate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav was launched by the Union Minister Housing and Urban Affairs
  • Jigyasa is a quiz competition which intends to create awareness about India's rich cultural heritage, civilization, literature, architecture and inherited knowledge which has its roots in ancient India.
  • This is one of its kind quiz competition, open to people globally, in which nearly 2 crore individuals are likely to participate.
  • Jigyasa is hosted on state-of-the-art technology, supported by artificial intelligence and machine learning.
  • Anyone from any part of the world can participate in Jigyasa: Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Quiz.
  • Those who are in the age group of 13-18 and not a part of the formal education system are also eligible to participate in Jigyasa.
  • Winners of Jigyasa will be eligible for a scholarship of Rs. 10 lakh each.

  • Union Minister for Tourism, launched the Utsav Portal.
  • The Utsav Portal website, a digital initiative launched by the Ministry of Tourism, aims to showcase all the events, festivals and live darshans across India to promote different regions of the country as popular tourist destinations worldwide.
  • The objective is to showcase various elements, dates and details of the events and festivals of India on a global platform and increase tourism awareness, attractions, and opportunities by providing tourists with contextual digital experiences in the form of visually appealing photographs and stills from the events.
  • The objective is also to let the devotees and travelers experience and view the sights of some of the well-known religious divine shrines in India in the form of Live Darshan.

80th SKOCH Summit 2022

What's the NEWS
  • The largest iron ore producer of India, National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC), under Ministry of Steel awarded one gold and one silver award in the 80th SKOCH Summit and SKOCH Awards recently conducted by SKOCH, New Delhi.
  • The theme for the SKOCH Summit was ‘State of BFSI & PSUs'.
  • The SKOCH Awards were given to the winners based on the application submitted on their website, presentation to jury followed by three rounds of popular online voting and second round of jury evaluation.

CANISTER LAUNCHED ANTI-ARMOUR LOITER AMMUNITION

 

What's the NEWS

  • The Army has issued a Request for Information (RFI) for anti-armour loiter ammunition for its mechanised forces which can be used on enemy tanks and other targets in the plains and deserts of Western India as well as on high altitude areas in the Northern borders in Ladakh.
Know! about CALM
  • The CALM System is a pre-loaded canister with loiter ammunition or a drone which once fired can remain aloft for a period of time over the area of operation, and when a target is sighted it can be guided down to destroy the target with the explosive payload that it carries.
  • Usually, loiter ammunitions carry a camera which is nose-mounted and which can be used by the operator to see the area of operation and choose targets.
  • These munitions also have variants which can be recovered and reused in case they are not used for any strike.

PATENT FILING
What's the NEWS

  • In India, for the first time in the last 11 years, the number of domestic patent filing has surpassed the number of international patent filing at Indian patent office in the Quarter Jan-Mar 2022.
Highlights
  • Total 19796 patent applications filed, 10706 were filed by Indian applicants against 9090 by non-Indian applicants.
  • Filing of patents have increased from 42763 in 2014-15 to 66440 in 2021-22, more that 50% increase in a span of 7 years
  • Nearly five times increase in grant of patents in 2021-22 (30,074) as compared to 2014-15 (5978)
  • Reduction in Time of patent examination from 72 months in Dec 2016 to 5-23 months at present, for different technological areas
  • India's ranking in Global Innovation Index has increased to 46th in 2021 (+35 ranks) as compared to from 81st in 2015-16
