EXERCISE "EX SAMPRITI-X"

What's the NEWS
  • As part of the ongoing India Bangladesh bilateral defence cooperation, a joint military training exercise Ex SAMPRITI-X is being conducted at Jashore Military Station in Bangladesh from 05 June to 16 June 2022.
Know! about the exercise
  • Exercise SAMPRITI is an important bilateral defence cooperation endeavour conducted alternately by both countries which aims to strengthen and widen the aspects of interoperability and cooperation between both the armies.
  • The aim of the exercise is to strengthen interoperability between the two armies and to understand each other's tactical drills and operational techniques.
  • The Indian contingent of company strength is being represented by a Battalion of the DOGRA Regiment and the contingent departed by road for the exercise location on 4 Jun 2022.

India - Vietnam

What's the NEWS

  • Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh will pay an official visit to Vietnam from June 08-10, 2022, at the invitation of Vietnam's Minister of National Defence
Bilateral meeting highlights
  • Raksha Mantri will preside over the handing over ceremony of 12 High Speed Guard Boats constructed under the Government of India's $US 100 million Defence Line of Credit to Vietnam.
  • This project is significant in the context of the growing defence industry cooperation with Vietnam and exemplifies India's vision of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat' and ‘Make in India, ‘Make for the World'.
  • During the visit, Shri Rajnath Singh will also visit the training institutions of Vietnam at Nha Trang, including the Telecommunication University where an Army Software Park is being established with the $US 5 million grant from Government of India.
  • India and Vietnam share a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership since 2016 and defence cooperation is a key pillar of this partnership.
  • Vietnam is an important partner in India's Act East policy and the Indo-Pacific vision.

Rooftop Solar Awareness Campaign

 

What's the NEWS

  • Ministry of New and Renewable Energy launched the Pan-India Rooftop Solar Awareness Campaign
  • Rooftop Solar provides an opportunity to the common person to make his contribution towards Global Warming & Climate Change.
  • This campaign titled "GHAR KE UPAR SOLAR IS SUPER" shall aim at mobilizing local government, citizens, RWAs, and Municipalities to spread awareness of Solar Rooftop.
  • NSEFI, with the support of the German Solar Association (BSW) and the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) under the Sequa KVP Programme, is launching a 3 year long, Pan India Rooftop Awareness Program aimed at increasing awareness of Solar Rooftops among 100 Indian towns and cities, especially tier 2 and tier 3 towns/cities.
India's efforts to protect the environment
  • The ministry is working towards achieving target of 500 GW of non-fossil by 2030.
  • Rooftop solar will play major role and Tier-2 & Tier-3 cities offer maximum potential in achieving this target.
  • PM-KUSUM - In this scheme farmers will be given 30% subsidy each by centre and state to install solar pumps.

  • National Solar Energy Federation of India (NSEFI) is an umbrella organization of all solar energy stakeholders of India.
  • It works in the area of policy advocacy and is a National Platform for addressing all issues connected with solar energy growth in India.
  • It consists of leading International, National and Regional companies and includes Solar Developers, Manufacturers, EPC Contractors, Rooftop Installers, System Integrators, and Balance of Plant suppliers and Manufacturers, Small and Medium Enterprises
  • It works in a complimentary manner with the Central and State Governments for achieving India's National Solar Target of 100 GW by 2022 & Renewable Target of 450 GW by 2030.

Lifestyle for the Environment- LiFE Movement launched

 

What's the NEWS

  • Prime Minister of India launched a global initiative ‘Lifestyle for the Environment - LiFE Movement'
  • The launch will initiate ‘LiFE Global Call for Papers' inviting ideas and suggestions from academics, universities & research institutions etc to influence and persuade individuals, communities and organisations across the world to adopt an environment-conscious lifestyle.
Know! About LiFE
  • The idea of LiFE was introduced by the Prime Minister during the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow last year.
  • The idea promotes an environment-conscious lifestyle that focuses on 'mindful and deliberate utilisation' instead of 'mindless and destructive consumption.
  • The vision of LiFE is to live a lifestyle that is in tune with our planet and does not harm it. And those who live such a lifestyle are called "Pro-Planet People".
  • Mission LiFE borrows from the past, operates in the present and focuses on the future.
  • Reduce, Reuse and Recycle are the concepts woven into our life.
  • The Circular Economy has been an integral part of our culture and lifestyle.
India's efforts to protect the environment
  • India's forest cover is increasing and so is the population of lions, tigers, leopards, elephants and rhinos.
  • India's commitment to reach 40% of installed electric capacity from non-fossil fuel-based sources has been achieved, 9 years ahead of schedule.
  • The target of 10% ethanol blending in petrol has been achieved 5 months ahead of the November 2022 target.
  • This is a major accomplishment given that blending was hardly 1.5% in 2013-14 and 5% in 2019-20.
World Environment Day 2022

  • Led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5 every year to raise awareness about degrading environmental conditions and to encourage people globally to take positive environmental actions
  • United Nations Conference on the Human Environment aka the Stockholm conference held in 1972 became the first world conference with the environment as its major agenda and it declared the right to live in a healthy environment as a basic human right.
  • Not only was the idea of a World Environment Day formalized there but also this conference saw the creation of the United Nations Environment Programme.
  • India hosted the 45th celebration of World Environment Day under the theme ‘Beat Plastic Pollution.
  • World Environment Day celebration last year also kicked off the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030) which is a global mission to revive billions of hectares, from forests to farmlands, from the top of mountains to the depth of the seas.
  • 2022 is a historic milestone as it marks 50 years since the 1972 Stockholm Conference.
  • With Sweden as the host country, the slogan for World Environment day 2022 is "Only One Earth", which focuses on living sustainably in harmony with nature.

Save Soil Programme

 

What's the NEWS

  • ‘Save Soil Movement' is a global movement to increase awareness about deteriorating soil health and to bring about a conscious response to improve it.
  • The movement was started by Sadhguru in March 2022, who embarked on a 100-day motorcycle journey passing through 27 countries. 5th June marks the 75thday of the 100-day journey.
  • Prime Minister's participation in the programme will reflect the shared concerns and commitment to improving the soil health in India.
India's efforts to protect the environment
  • The average carbon footprint of the world is about 4 ton per person per annum compared to just about 0.5 ton per person per annum in India.
  • India is working on a long term vision in collaboration with the International community on protecting the Environment and established organizations like Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, International Solar Alliance.
  • India has achieved the target of sourcing 40% of our installed power generation capacity from non-fossil-fuel 9 years ahead of schedule.
  • Solar energy capacity has increased by 18 times and policies like Hydrogen Mission and Circular economy related policies, scrappage policy are examples of our commitment to environment protection
  • India has achieved the target of 10 percent ethanol blending, 5 months ahead of schedule.
  • The Prime Minister reiterated India's goal of Net-Zero by 2070.
The Prime Minister informed that to save the soil, we have focused on five main things.
  • First- How to make the soil chemical free.
  • Second- How to save the organisms that live in the soil, which are called Soil Organic Matter in technical language.
  • Third- How to maintain soil moisture, how to increase the availability of water till it.
  • Fourth- How to remove the damage that is happening to the soil due to less groundwater.
  • Fifth - how to stop the continuous erosion of soil due to the reduction of forests.
