AGNIPATH scheme
- The Union Cabinet today approved an attractive recruitment scheme for Indian youth to serve in the Armed Forces.
- The scheme is called AGNIPATH and the youth selected under this scheme will be known as Agniveers.
- AGNIPATH allows patriotic and motivated youth to serve in the Armed Forces for a period of four years.
- The policy, which comes into immediate effect, will hereafter govern the enrolment for the three services.
- Agniveers will be given an attractive customised monthly package along with Risk and Hardship allowances as applicable in the three services.
- On completion of the engagement period of four years, Agniveers will be paid one time ‘Seva Nidhi' package which shall comprise their contribution including accrued interest thereon and matching contribution from the Government equal to the accumulated amount of their contribution including interest
- The ‘Seva Nidhi' will be exempt from Income Tax. There shall be no entitlement to gratuity and pensionary benefits.
- Agniveers will be provided non-contributory Life Insurance Cover of Rs 48 lakhs for the duration of their engagement period in the Indian Armed Forces.
- Under the AGNIPATH scheme, the Agniveers will be enrolled in the Forces under respective Service Acts for a period of four years.
- They would form a distinct rank in the Armed Forces, different from any other existing ranks.
- Under the new Agnipath scheme, around 45,000 to 50,000 soldiers will be recruited annually, and most will leave the service in just four years.
- Of the total annual recruits, only 25 per cent will be allowed to continue for another 15 years under permanent commission.
- Enrolment will be based on ‘All India All Class' basis and the eligible age will be in range from 17.5 to 21 years.
- The new system is only for personnel below officer ranks
New Greenfield Airport Dholera, Ahmedabad
- The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Prime Minister has approved the proposal for development of Phase I of New Greenfield Airport at Dholera, Gujarat at an estimated cost of Rs. 1305 crore, to be completed within 48 months.
- The New Greenfield Airport at Dholera is situated at an aerial distance of 80 Km from Ahmedabad, Airport.
- The project is being implemented by Dholera International Airport Company Limited (DIACL), which is a Joint Venture Company comprising Airports Authority of India (AAI), Government of Gujarat (GoG) and National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT) holding equity in the ratio of 51:33:16.
Single Window Clearance System (SWCS)

- The Ministry of Coal has launched Project Information & Management Module of Single Window Clearance System (SWCS)
- The new IT- enabled facility, is an innovative endeavour of the Ministry to create a platform to obtain various clearances for operationalization of coal mines in the country.
- As part of the decision to digitize the clearances, Ministry of Coal has conceptualized a Single Window Clearance System, through which a project proponent can apply for requisite clearances with a single registration interface.
- The portal is proposed to map applications and their respective process flows for grant of all the statutory clearances required (covering Central Ministries as well as State Government departments/agencies) for starting of a Coal Mine.

Sugamya Cane Device
What's the NEWS
- Sugamya Cane Device is an Assistive Aids consisting of Sugamya Cane Sensor and a Normal Foldable White Cane, assists to a Visually Impaired Person intelligently in mobility and direction-finding.
- Sugamya Cane assists in walking and detects obstacles that come within detection zone of sensor.
- Sensor is mounted on foldable White Cane which can be easily folded as and when required by user with help of hanging elastic provided at right side of hand grip for strapping the folded cane.
- Two mode of detection has been provided in the Sugamya Cane, while moving in outdoor environment, longer range can be convenient and for Indoor environment Shorter range can be convenient.

- The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has condoled the demise of Baba Yogendra, Padma Shri and the National Guardian of ‘Sanskar Bharti'
- Baba Yogendra, founder member of Sanskar Bharati, cultural wing of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) passed away in Lucknow.
- Born in Basti district of Uttar Pradesh, Baba Yogendra came into touch with Nanaji Deshmukh and became Pracharak of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.
16th Presidential Election of India

- Election Commission of India has announced the schedule of election for the 16th Presidential Election.
- The term of office of Shri Ram Nath Kovind, President of India, is ending on 24th July, 2022.
- As per Article 62 of the Constitution of India, an election to fill the vacancy caused by the expiration of the term of office of the outgoing President is required to be completed before the expiration of the term.
- Article 324 of the Constitution read with the Presidential and Vice-Presidential Elections Act, 1952, and the Presidential and Vice - Presidential Elections Rules, 1974 vests the superintendence, direction and control of the conduct of election to the office of the President of India in the Election Commission of India.
- As per the Article 54 of the Constitution of India, the President is elected by the members of the Electoral College consisting of:
- elected members of the Legislative Assemblies of all States including National Capital Territory of Delhi and the Union Territory of Puducherry
- Nominated members of Rajya Sabha, Lok Sabha and the Assemblies, and members of state Legislative Councils, are not part of the electoral college.
- Article 55 (3) of the Constitution provides that the election shall be held in accordance with the system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote and the voting at such election shall be by secret ballot.
- The votes are weighted, their value determined by the population of each state as per Census 1971.
