What's the NEWS

  • The fourth phase of Sea Trials for IAC has been successfully completed
  • The ship's delivery is being targeted in end Jul 22, followed by commissioning of the ship in Aug 22 to commemorate ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav'.
  • The Indigenous design and construction of Aircraft Carrier by Indian Navy and Cochin Shipyard Ltd is a shining example in the Nation's quest for ‘AatmaNirbhar Bharat' and ‘Make in India Initiative' with more than 76% indigenous content.
  • This has led to growth in indigenous design and construction capabilities, besides development of large number of ancillary industries, with employment opportunities for over 2000 CSL personnel and about 12000 employees in ancillary industries.

  • Swami Atmasthananda (21 May 1919 - 18 June 2017) was an Indian Hindu monk, who was the fifteenth president of the Ramakrishna Math and the Ramakrishna Mission
  • He was born on the auspicious Buddha Purnima Tithi on 21 May 1919 at Dinajpur, in the Bengal Presidency.
  • He received spiritual initiation (mantra diksha) from Most Revered the then 4th President of the Ramakrishna Order, Swami Vijnanananda (a direct monastic disciple of Ramakrishna) in January 1938.
  • He joined the Ramakrishna Order at Belur Math on 3 January 1941 at the age of 22 years.
  • Swami Atmasthananand Ji received initiation from Pujya Swami Vijnanand Ji, a disciple of Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa.

22nd National Fish Farmers Day celebrated

  • National Fisheries Development Board, Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, celebrated the 22ndNational Fish Farmers Day today in a hybrid mode at NFDB Hyderabad.
  • More than 1000 fish farmers, aquapreneurs & fisher folks, professionals, officials and scientists from across the nation participated in the event.
National Fish Farmer's Day
  • It is celebrated on 10th July every year to demonstrate solidarity with all fisher folk, fish farmers and concerned stakeholders throughout the country.
  • Every year, this annual event is celebrated to commemorate Professor Dr. Hiralal Chaudhury and his colleague Dr. Alikunhi for their contribution in achieving the successful induced breeding of major carps on 10th July,1957 at Angul in Odisha for the first time in the country through administration of carp pituitary hormone extract in the breeding of major carps.
  • The technology was later on standardized and fine-tuned by developing synthetic hormone for quality seed production across the country.
Transforming the fisheries sector (steps taken by the state)
  • Centrally Sponsored Scheme "Blue Revolution" - Integrated Development and Management of Fisheries was launched in 2016
  • It had made vital contributions towards the development of the sector and during 2020
  • The "Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) launched for a period of five years.
  • PMMSY aims to achieve fish production of 22 MMT from the current 13.76 MMT by 2024-25 and to create an additional employment opportunity to about 55 lakh people through this sector.
  • The Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF) scheme started in 2018-19
  • FIDF will specifically cater to creation of fisheries infrastructure facilities both in marine and inland fisheries sectors to augment the fish production to achieve the target.
  • Projects under the FIDF is eligible for loan up to 80% of the estimated/actual project cost.

  • The Singalila National Park in West Bengal, will soon get new red pandas.

  • A zoo in the picturesque Darjeeling Hills has started an ambitious programme to augment the wild red panda population.
  • In the first rewilding programme of red pandas (Ailurus fulgens) in India, the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park will release 20 of these furry endangered mammals in about five years to the forests.
  • The number of red pandas has been declining in the wild, even in the Singalila and Neora Valley National Parks, the two protected areas where the mammal is found in the wild in West Bengal.
  • Recent studies estimate that there are 38 of them in Singalila and 32 in Neora.
  • The Padmaja Naidu park, at a height of about 2,000 metres above the sea level, is one of the high-altitude zoos in the country and has been quite successful in captive breeding of the furry mammals.

  • National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) is introducing Internet Exchanges in Durgapur and Bardhaman to improve quality of Internet and Broadband services in West Bengal and nearby regions.
  • It's an initiative under Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) vision 1000 days.
Know! about NIXI
  • NIXI is a not for profit Organization under section 8 of the Companies Act 2013 and was registered on 19th June 2003.
  • NIXI was set up for peering of ISPs among themselves for the purpose of routing the domestic traffic within the country, instead of taking it all the way to US/Abroad, thereby resulting in better quality of service (reduced latency) and reduced bandwidth charges for ISPs by saving on International Bandwidth.
  • NIXI is managed and operated on a Neutral basis, in line with the best practices for such initiatives globally.
