NIIO Seminar Swavlamban
What's the NEWS
- Prime Minister will address the NIIO (Naval Innovation and Indigenisation Organisation) Seminar 'Swavlamban' on 18th July, 2022
- Prime Minister will also unveil ‘SPRINT Challenges', which are aimed at giving a boost to usage of indigeneous technology in the Indian Navy.
- As a part of the 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav', NIIO, in conjunction with the Defence Innovation Organisation (DIO), aims at inducting at least 75 new indigenous technologies / products in the Indian Navy.
- This collaborative project is named SPRINT (Supporting Pole-Vaulting in R&D through iDEX, NIIO and TDAC).
- The Seminar aims to engage Indian industry and academia towards achieving self-reliance in the Defence sector.
- The two day Seminar (18-19 July) will provide a platform for leaders from Industry, Academia, Services and Government to come together on a common platform to ideate and come up with recommendations for the Defence Sector.
- The Seminar will witness outreach to the Indian Ocean Region, in line with the government's vision of SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region).
iDEX
- iDEX aims at creation of an ecosystem to foster innovation and technology development in Defence and Aerospace by engaging Industries including MSMEs, start-ups, individual innovators, R&D institutes & academia.
- It provide them grants/funding and other support to carry out R&D which has good potential for future adoption for Indian defence and aerospace needs.
- iDEX will be funded and managed by a ‘Defence Innovation Organization (DIO)' which has been formed as a ‘not for profit' company as per Section 8 of the Companies Act 2013 for this purpose, by the two founder members i.e. Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) - HAL & BEL.
- iDEX will function as the executive arm of DIO, carrying out all the required activities while DIO will provide high level policy guidance to iDEX.
- The NIIO puts in place dedicated structures for the end users to interact with academia and industry towards fostering innovation and indigenisation for self-reliance in defence in keeping with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
- The NIIO is a three-tiered organisation. Naval Technology Acceleration Council (N-TAC) will bring together the twin aspects of innovation and indigenisation and provide apex level directives.
- A working group under the N-TAC will implement the projects.
- A Technology Development Acceleration Cell (TDAC) has also been created for induction of emerging disruptive technology in an accelerated time frame.
- Technology Development Acceleration Cell (TDAC) has been created under NIIO to focus on innovation.
- Naval Technology Acceleration Council (NTAC) the apex body of the Naval Innovation and Indigenisation Organisation (NIIO)
- To engage young minds in premier educational institutions the 'Indian Naval Students Technical Engagement Programme' (IN STEP) provides a five month online internship to work on naval problem statements.

INS SINDHUDHVAJ DECOMMISSIONED
What's the NEWS
- INS Sindhudhvaj bid adieu to Indian Navy serving for a glorious period of 35 years.
- INS Sindhudhvaj was a Sindhughosh-class submarine of the Indian Navy in service from 1987 until 16 July 2022, when she was decommissioned.
- INS Sindhudhvaj had many a firsts to her credit including operationalisation of the indigenised sonar USHUS, Indigenised Satellite Communication systems Rukmani and MSS, Inertial Navigation System and Indigenised Torpedo Fire Control System.
- INS Sindhudhvaj also successfully undertook mating and personnel transfer with Deep Submergence Rescue Vessel and only submarine to be awarded CNS Rolling trophy for Innovation.
- Sindhughosh-class submarines are Kilo-class diesel-electric submarines in active service with the Indian Navy.
- The Sindhughosh submarines, designated 877EKM, were designed as part of Project 877, and built under a contract between Rosvooruzhenie and the Ministry of Defence (India).

- Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that efforts are being made to bring in the culture of collecting votes by distributing 'free revdi' (sweets) in the country.
- PM Modi warned people against the revri culture under which votes are collected by promising freebies and said this could be' very dangerous' for the development of the country.
- Speaking at the inauguration of Bundelkhand Expressway in Jalaun in Uttar Pradesh, Mr. Modi said the "revri culture" (Culture of Freebies) would take the new India towards darkness.

Scheme for Rebate of State and Central Taxes and Levies (RoSCTL)
What's the NEWS
- The Centre has extended the Scheme for Rebate of State and Central Taxes and Levies (RoSCTL) till March 2024 to boost exports and job creation in the textile sector.
- The Ministry of Textiles stated that the rates of exports of apparel and garments will continue the same as earlier notified by the Ministry.
- The RoSCTL Scheme helped in improving cost efficiency and export competitiveness in the international market.
- The scheme has provided a stable and predictable policy regime, helping boost exports and employment.
- The scheme has also promoted the incubation of start-ups and entrepreneurs in the domain.
- The scheme also led to a large number of MSMEs joining the apparel export business.

MISSION SHAKTI SCHEME
What's the NEWS
- Women and Child Development Ministry has issued guidelines for Mission Shakti Scheme.
- This scheme has been launched for the safety, security and empowerment of women.
- It seeks to realize the government's commitment to women-led development by making them equal partners in nation-building.
- The key objectives of the mission are to provide care, support and assistance to women and to put in place quality mechanisms for the rescue, protection and rehabilitation of women who are victims of crime and violence.
- The scheme is also aimed at improving accessibility to various government services available for women at various levels.
- Mission Shakti has two sub-schemes - Sambal and Samarthya. While the Sambal stresses on safety and security of women, the Samarthya focuses on the empowerment of women.
- The components of the Sambal sub-scheme consist of schemes including One Stop Centre, Women Helpline, Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao and Nari Adalats.
- The components of the Samarthya sub-scheme consist of schemes of Ujjwala, Swadhar Greh and Working Women Hostel.
- In addition, the existing schemes of the National Creche Scheme for children of working mothers and Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana have now been included in Samarthya.
