First All India District Legal Services Authorities Meet
What's the NEWS
- Prime Minister address the inaugural session of First All India District Legal Services Authorities Meet
- The first ever national level meet of District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) is being organised from 30-31 July 2022 at Vigyan Bhawan by National Legal Services Authority (NALSA).
- The meet will deliberate on creation of an integrated procedure in order to bring homogeneity and synchronisation across DLSAs.
- There are a total 676 District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) in the country.
- They are headed by the District Judge who acts as Chairman of the authority.
- Through DLSAs and State Legal Services Authorities (SLSAs), various legal aid and awareness programmes are implemented by NALSA.
- The DLSAs also contribute towards reducing the burden on courts by regulating the Lok Adalats conducted by NALSA.

PM launches Power Sector's Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme
What's the NEWS
- Prime Minister participated in the Grand Finale marking the culmination of ‘Ujjwal Bharat Ujjwal Bhavishya - Power @2047'
- The Prime Minister launched the Ministry of Power's flagship Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme which is aimed at improving the operational efficiencies and financial sustainability of Distribution Companies.
- The scheme aims to provide financial assistance to DISCOMs for modernization and strengthening of distribution infrastructure, aiming at improvement of the reliability and quality of supply to end consumers.
- It is also proposed to provide 25 crore Smart Prepaid meters to consumers all over the country.
- The PM also launched the national portal for Rooftop solar, which will enable online tracking of the process of installation of rooftop solar plants, starting from registering the applications to release of subsidy in residential consumers bank account after installation and inspection of the plant.
- The estimated capacity under the national solar rooftop program is 4000 MW.

Pingali Venkayya
What's the NEWS
- The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has paid homage to Pingali Venkayya on his birth anniversary (02 August)
- Pingali Venkayya, born 142 years ago was an Indian freedom fighter who the nation remembers proudly for reasons more than his struggle for our independence.
- He designed the National Flag and presented it to Mahatma Gandhi during the latter's visit to Vijayawada city on 1 April 1921.
- Pingali Venkayya was agriculturist and also an educationist who set up an educational institution in Machilipatnam.
- He, however, died in poverty in 1963 and was largely forgotten by the society.
- Born near Machilipatnam (now in Andhra Pradesh), Venkayya was a Gandhian ideologist.
- It was during his stint with the British Army that the 19-year-old met Mahatama Gandhi in Africa.
- Venkayya's association with Mahatama Gandhi lasted over 50 years.
- Venkayya's design for the National Flag was finally approved by Mahatama Gandhi in a Congress meeting in Vijayawada in 1921.

Lumpy skin infection
What's the NEWS
- The outbreak of the contagious lumpy skin disease has become a bane for thousands of cattle herders in western and northern Rajasthan.
- The disease is mainly affecting cows, particularly the indigenous ones and close to 25,000 bovines have been affected so far.
- Infection is rapidly spreading in cows having low immunity. Because of low immunity, other diseases attack and the animal dies
- There is no treatment or vaccine for lump disease and treatment is given as per symptoms.
- The outbreak of lumpy skin disease has also affected over 17 districts in Gujarat, and killed at least 254 cattle in the past two weeks alone.
- Lumpy skin disease is a contagious viral disease that affects cattle.
- It's caused by the Neethling virus from the Poxviridae family of viruses.
- The virus is transmitted by insects that feed on blood, including mosquitoes, flies, and ticks.
- Once infected, cows display enlarged lymph nodes and nodules on and under their skin.
- Infected cattle also display runny noses, fever, swelling of the legs, and can suffer permanent damage to their skin.
- Lumpy skin disease is spread by insects that feed on blood.
- This includes mosquitoes, ticks, and several types of fly including the tse-tse fly, the horsefly and other flies that transmit blood-feeding parasites.
- Lumpy skin disease spreads faster and more efficiently in high heat and humidity.
- Pakistan reported an outbreak of lumpy skin disease in Karachi in February 2022.
