  • Union Minister of Chemicals & Fertilizers will inaugurate the India Chem 2022 on 2nd November 2022
  • Theme "Vision 2030: Chemicals and Petrochemicals Build India".

 

India Chem 2022 Highlights

 

  • Organised by - Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers
  • It will showcase the Government's policy for sustainable growth in the sector and provide a platform for national and international players to interact, exchange knowledge and forge alliances.
  • India Chem, the flagship event of the Department, is one of the largest composite events of the industry in the Asia-Pacific region and this comprises of an International Conference and Exhibition.
  • Department is organizing the 12th edition of INDIA CHEM in association with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).

 

The Indian Chemicals and Petrochemicals industry

 

  • It is the backbone of the Indian economy and plays a vital role in the growth of various key sectors like automotive, construction, electronics, health care, textiles and FMCG.
  • Export of Indian Chemicals has registered an overwhelming growth of 106% in 2021-22 over 2013-14.

 

HARIT Aaykar initiative

  • The Income Tax Department participated enthusiastically in the Government of India's month-long Special Campaign for Swachhata which ends on 31st October, 2022.
  • This day (31st October) marks the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and is also observed as the National Unity Day.
  • On this special occasion, the Income Tax Department has launched the HARIT Aaykar (Hariyali Achievement Resolution by Income Tax) initiative.
  • Under this initiative, the Department resolves to increase the green cover by planting trees and creating micro-forests in and around Income Tax Department's buildings and other public areas.
  • Under the HARIT Aaykar initiative, the first of such micro-forests has been inaugurated near Attari border in Punjab

 


Special Operation Medal

What's the NEWS

 

  • The "Union Home Minister's Special Operation Medal" for the year 2022 have been awarded for 4 Special Operations.
  • The medal was constituted in 2018 with the objective to recognize those operations, which have high degree of planning, high significance for the security of the country/State/UT and have significant impact on the security of larger sections of the society.
  • The award shall be conferred for Special Operation in the areas such as counter terrorism, border action, arms control, prevention of narcotics smuggling and rescue operations.
  • It is announced on 31st of October every year.
  • In a year, normally 3 Special Operations are considered for the award and in extra ordinary circumstances; the award may be given up to 5 Special Operations to encourage State/UT Police.
Special Campaign 2.0

 

What's the NEWS

 

  • The Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances (DARPG) has undertaken Special Campaign 2.0 for swachhata in government offices and disposal of pending matter from 2nd October, 2022 to 31st October, 2022, on the lines of Special Campaign held in 2021.
  • The Special Campaign 2.0 covered all Ministries/Department of Government of India and their attached/subordinate offices.
The Special Campaign 2.0 was undertaken in two phases.
  • During Phase-1, Ministries/Department sensitized the officers, mobilize the ground functionaries for the Campaign, identified pendencies in identified categories, finalized the Campaign sites, identified the scraps and redundant materials and completed laid down procedures for their disposal.
  • During phase-2, the Ministries/Departments made efforts to dispose of all identified references/pendency from 02.10.2022 to 31.10.2022 and progress of disposal is to be reported on SCPDM portal.

 

ECI leads ‘Cohort on Election Integrity, with EMBs worldwide; Mauritius, Greece & IFES joins ECI as co-leads

  • Chief Election Commissioner of India Shri Rajiv Kumar along with Election Commissioner Shri Anup Chandra Pandey today inaugurated a two day international conference on the theme ‘Role, Framework & Capacity of Election Management Bodies' (EMBs)
  • The conference is organized by Election Commission of India at New Delhi under Cohort on Election Integrity led by ECI, which was established as a follow on to the ‘Summit for Democracy' held in December, 2021.

 

Session Highlights

 

  • ECI, as the lead for the Cohort on ‘Election Integrity', took a collaborative approach and invited Greece, Mauritius and IFES to be co-leads for the Cohort.
  • ECI also invited UNDP and International IDEA, apart from EMBs and Government counterparts dealing with the conduct of elections worldwide.
  • Nearly 50 Participants from Eleven EMBs from 11 countries including Armenia, Mauritius, Nepal, Cabo Verde, Australia, Chile, Federal States of Micronesia, Greece, Philippines, São Tomé & Príncipe, USA and three international organisations namely, IFES, International IDEA and UNDP India are expected to join.
Summit for Democracy
  • It was an initiative of US President and hosted in December 2021.
  • The Prime Minister of India spoke at the Leaders Plenary Session on December 9, 2021.
  • Following this Summit, a "Year of Action" was proposed with events and dialogues on themes related to Democracy and to host an in-person ‘Leaders' Summit for Democracy' subsequently.
  • The Summit also developed two platforms - ‘Focal Groups' and ‘Democracy Cohorts' to facilitate participation in the Year of Action.
  • As part of the ‘Summit for Democracy' Year of Action, India through the ECI, is leading the ‘Democracy Cohort on Election Integrity' to share its knowledge, technical expertise and experiences with other democracies of the world.
  • ECI has proposed to provide training and capacity building programmes to Election Management Bodies (EMBs) across the world

International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES)

 

 

  • It is an international, non-profit organization founded in 1987.
  • Based in Arlington, Virginia, the organization provides assistance and support for elections and electoral stakeholders in new and emerging democracies.
  • Since 1987, IFES has worked in 145 countries and currently has programs in more than 50 countries throughout Asia-Pacific, Africa, Eurasia, Middle East and North Africa, and the Americas.

 

The International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA)

 

  • It is an intergovernmental organization that works to support and strengthen democratic institutions and processes around the world, to develop sustainable, effective and legitimate democracies.
  • It has regional offices in Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia and the Pacific and Africa and West Asia.
  • The organization is headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden.
  • International IDEA is an official United Nations Observer.
