National Florence Nightingale Awards 2021

 

 

What's the NEWS

  • The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu presented the National Florence Nightingale Awards for the year 2021 to the Nursing professionals today (November 7, 2022) at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
  • The National Florence Nightingale Awards were instituted in the year 1973 by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India as a mark of recognition for the meritorious services rendered by the nurses and nursing professionals to the society.

 

Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas

 

 

What's the NEWS

  • To commemorate the contribution of the tribal freedom fighters, the Ministry of Education in association with the AICTE, UGC, Central Universities, Private Universities, other HEIs, CBSE, KVS, NVS and Skilling institutions is celebrating ‘JanjatiyaGaurav Divas'.
  • Last year, the Government had declared 15th November as ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Divas' dedicated to the memory of brave tribal freedom fighters.
  • 15th November is the birth anniversary of Birsa Munda who is revered as Bhagwan by tribal communities across the country.
  • Birsa Munda was an iconic freedom fighter, social reformer and revered tribal leader of the country, who fought bravely against the exploitative system of the British colonial government, and became a legendary figure in his lifetime, often referred to as ‘Bhagwan'.
  • He organized and led the tribal movement, giving a call for "Ulgulan" (Revolt) to the tribals.
  • He encouraged tribals to understand their cultural roots and observe unity.

 

MNRE notifies National Bio Energy Programme

 

What's the NEWS

  • The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India has notified the National Bioenergy Programme on November 2, 2022.
  • MNRE has continued the National Bioenergy Programme for the period from FY 2021-22 to 2025-26.
  • The Programme has been recommended for implementation in two Phases.
The National Bioenergy Programme will comprises of the following sub-schemes:
  1. Waste to Energy Programme (Programme on Energy from Urban, Industrial and Agricultural Wastes /Residues) to support setting up of large Biogas, BioCNG and Power plants (excluding MSW to Power projects).
  2. Biomass Programme (Scheme to Support Manufacturing of Briquettes & Pellets and Promotion of Biomass (non-bagasse) based cogeneration in Industries) to support setting up of pellets and briquettes for use in power generation and non-bagasse based power generation projects.
  3. Biogas Programme to support setting up of family and medium size Biogas in rural areas.

 

District Mineral Foundation

 

What's the NEWS

  • As per the latest figures of Ministry of Mines, District Mineral Foundation (DMF) has been constituted in 622 Districts spread across 23 States of India.
  • The concept of DMF was introduced through amendment in Mines & Minerals (Development & Regulation) MMDR Act, 1957.
  • The amended Act inter -alia introduced section 9 B which provides for establishment of DMF, a trust as non- profit body, in all districts affected by mining related operations.
  • The objective of DMF is to work for the interest and benefit of people and areas affected by mining.
  • Pradhan Mantri Khanij Kshetra Kalyan Yojana (PMKKKY) is being implemented through the funds collected under DMF.

 


Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) 2021-22

 

What's the NEWS

  • Ministry of Education released a detailed report on Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) 2021-22 on school education of India.
  • The UDISE+ system of online data collection from the schools was developed by Department of School Education & Literacy in the year 2018-19 to overcome the issues related to erstwhile practice of manual data filling in paper format .
  • In UDISE+ system, improvements have been made particularly in the areas related to data capture, data mapping and data verification.
  • In UDISE+ 2021-22, additional data on important indicators viz., digital library, peer learning, hard spot identification, number of books available in school library, etc have been collected for the first time to align with the NEP 2020 initiatives.
Highlights
  • Total students enrolled in school education from primary to higher secondary increased
  • Total number of Scheduled caste. Schedule Tribe and OBE enrolment increased
  • Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) which measures the general level of participation has improved in 2021-22 at primary, upper primary, and higher secondary levels of school education
  • The Gender Parity Index (GPI) of GER shows the representation of females in school education is in line with representation of girls in population of corresponding age group.

 

 

 


Paediatric Rare Genetic Disorders (PraGeD)

  • The Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD), Hyderabad has initiated an inter-disciplinary approach to decode the genetic mutations that causes Pediatric Rare Genetic Disorders (PRaGeD).

  • The ‘Mission on Paediatric Rare Genetic Disorders (PraGeD)' is a PAN-India initiative funded by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and technology, Government of India.
  • The centre will be collaborating with paediatrics departments of medical colleges besides, DBT's own diagnostic centres set up under the Unique Methods of Management of Inherited Disorders (UMMID) programme and others across India to analyse samples from children with rare genetic disorders and their parents.
  • CDFD is developing a state of the art facility to study the Pediatric Rare Genetic Diseases.
  • Scientists at the CDFD will perform high-throughput Whole Exome Sequencing (WES)/ Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS), analysis of sequence data, functional validation of the novel genes/variants, a database of phenotype-genotype to determine which gene/mutation(s) cause rare disease condition
Know! about Rare Genetic Disorders
  • The rare genetic diseases are a global public health concern with 350 million people affected worldwide and about 70 million Indians.
  • They are common in South Asia and underestimated.
  • About 95% of the rare genetic diseases do not have a single approved drug for treatment with about 30% children suffering and many may not live till the age of five.

 


Panamaram Heronry

What's the NEWS

 

  • Due to the intervention of the Kerala State Biodiversity Board (KSBB) and the Panamaram grama panchayat, Panamaram heronry is set to get a fresh lease of life.

 

Know! about it

 

  • Panamaram heronry is the largest breeding ground of different species of herons in the Malabar region.
  • The heronry, formed on a sandbank on the Panamaram River, is a breeding ground for nine species of waterbirds.
  • The tiny islet is a haven for globally threatened waterfowls, including the black headed-ibis, purple heron, large egret, median egret, little egret, pond heron, night heron, and little cormorant.
  • The site is also the only location in State where the cattle egret breeds.
