What's the NEWS

 

  • As part of the Sweden India Nobel Memorial Week, SHE STEM, the annual event to celebrate women in the fields of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and sustainability, was successfully held for the third year in a row.
  • The annual event is organised by the Embassy of Sweden in India in partnership with the Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog, Government of India and the German Centre of Innovation and Research (DWIH New Delhi).

  • Under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Ministry of Culture in association with Department of Post unveiled Daakroom, the renowned letter writing carnival
  • The one-of-a-kind letter writing event, supported by India Post, Ministry of Culture and Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti is aimed to give a digital detox with the aim of reviving the art of letter writing in India.
  • The unique carnival conceptualized to re-introduce children & larger audiences to letter writing in innovative, creative, and engaging ways, also hosted competitions and workshops around writing and post.

 

Authority Holding Sealed Particulars of Akash Weapon System

 

What's the NEWS

  • Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) handed over Authority Holding Sealed Particulars (AHSP) of Akash Weapon System (Indian Army Version) to Missile Systems Quality Assurance Agency (MSQAA) in Hyderabad
  • The handing over was held at Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) which, as a nodal agency, has designed and developed the Akash weapon system.
  • The Technical Specification & Quality Document and the drawing of complete weapon system elements were sealed and handed over by Project Akash to MSQAA as part of AHSP transfer.

 

Authority Holding Sealed Particulars (AHSP)

  • It is responsible for holding of sealed particulars and patterns and supply of certified copies of drawings / specifications in respect of items / range of items for which it is designated as AHSP.

 

Missile System Quality Assurance Agency (MSQAA)

  • It is an independent Common Inspection Agency under the administrative and functional control of Director General Aeronautical Quality Assurance (DGAQA).
  • The three participating QA organizations i.e. Director General of Quality Assurance (DGQA), Directorate General of Aeronautical Quality Assurance (DGAQA) and Director General of Naval Armament Inspection (DGNAI) share the manpower requirement of the Organisation.
  • MSQAA is the designated independent Quality Assurance Agency for providing QA support with an objective to achieve quality and reliability in all the highly complex and sophisticated tactical guided missile systems being indigenously developed and produced by the DRDO.

 

Know! about Akash

  • Akash is the first state-of-the-art indigenous surface-to-air missile system which has been with Armed Forces for nearly a decade defending the Indian skies and providing national security.
  • It is inducted by Indian Army and Indian Air Force with order value worth Rs 30,000 crore, which is one of the largest single system orders for indigenous missile system.

  • Union Minister of Earth Sciences inaugurate da conference titled, "Women Leading Change in Health and Science in India
  • The conference being organized by Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India and Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), a PSU of DBT, in collaboration with Women Lift Health and Grand Challenges India

  • Researchers in Canada have discovered two new minerals in a meteorite that landed in east Africa
  • The 15-tonne El Ali meteorite was found in Somalia in 2020.
  • It is the ninth largest celestial rock found on Earth at over 2 metres wide
  • The meteorite came from an asteroid in the Asteroid Belt between Mars and Jupiter.
  • The 2-metre-wide meteorite has been well known to generations of people who live in the area, where it was named Nightfall.
  • The minerals have been named "elaliite," after the town where the meteorite crashed, and "elkinstantonite," after planetary scientist Lindy Elkins-Tanton.

 

 

Parakram Diwas celebrated in Rajasthan to mark 51st anniversary of Longewala battle

 

What's the NEWS

  • To mark the 51st anniversary of India's victory in the Longewala battle during the 1971 war, Parakram Diwas celebrated at Jaisalmer Military Station and Longewala War Memorial in Rajasthan on December 5.
  • The Longewala battle between India and Pakistan in 1971 was one of the biggest and most decisive battles, which is registered in the Golden words in History.
  • On the night of 04/05 Dec 1971, Pakistan forces comprising 4000 soldiers, T-59 & Sherman tanks, and a medium artillery battery attacked Longewala border post held by 23 PUNJAB.
  • Inspite of being outnumbered, Indian soldiers gallantly held the post and requisitioned support of IAF.
  • At the dawn of 5th Dec 1971, the Hunter aircraft based at Jaisalmer wreaked havoc on the Pakistani troops with their devastating fire power.

 


Navy Day/Operational Demonstration

  • Navy Day in India is celebrated on 4 December every year to recognize the achievements and role of the Indian Navy to the country.
  • 4 December was chosen as on that day in 1971, during Operation Trident, the Indian Navy sank four Pakistani vessels including PNS Khaibar, killing hundreds of Pakistani Navy personnel.
  • It aims to acknowledge the role of the Indian Navy and commemorate its achievements in ‘Operation Trident' during the 1971 Indo-Pak War.
  • This year, for the first time, Navy Day Celebrations are being conducted outside the National Capital.
  • This year, as India celebrates 75 years of her independence, the Indian Navy is all set to demonstrate India's combat prowess and capability through an ‘Operational Demonstration' at Visakhapatnam.
  • The Op Demo will showcase the capability and versatility of Indian Naval ships, submarines, aircraft, and Special Forces.
  • The Navy Day celebrations are aimed at fostering greater outreach, renewing maritime consciousness amongst our citizens and highlights the Navy's contributions towards national security.

 


China holds first Indian Ocean Region meet with 19 countries without India

  • The China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), an organisation connected with the Chinese Foreign Ministry held a meeting of the China-Indian Ocean Region Forum on Development Cooperation on November 21, in which 19 countries took part
  • The meeting was held in a hybrid manner under the theme of "Shared Development: Theory and Practice from the Perspective of the Blue Economy" in Kunming, Yunnan Province
  • Representatives of 19 countries, including Indonesia, Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Maldives, Nepal, Afghanistan, Iran, Oman, South Africa, Kenya, Mozambique, Tanzania, Seychelles, Madagascar, Mauritius, Djibouti, Australia and representatives of 3 international organisations were present
  • India was reportedly not invited, according to informed sources here.
  • Last year, China held a meeting with some South Asian countries on COVID-19 vaccine cooperation without the participation of India.
  • India has been a traditional partner and supporter of Indian Ocean Region (IOR) countries
  • It has been regularly engaging with the Indian Ocean littoral countries through such mechanisms as the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) and Indian Ocean Navies Symposium (IONS) under the vision of "Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR)" as propounded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a visit to Mauritius in 2015.

 


International Cheetah Day and Wildlife Conservation Day

  • The National Zoological Park, New Delhi (Delhi Zoo) celebrated "International Cheetah Day" and "Wildlife Conservation Day" in collaboration with Central Zoo Authority.
International Cheetah Day
  • The purpose behind the celebration of "International Cheetah Day" and "Wildlife Conservation Day" is to spread awareness among present generation about the Wildlife Conservation.
  • Few Months back eight Namibian cheetahs found their new home at Madhya Pradesh's Kuno National Park
  • International Cheetah Day falls on December 4 and aims to protect the wildlife.
  • Cheetahs are carnivores and they usually chase down their prey and then bite its throat, killing it by cutting off its air supply
  • American zoologist Dr Laurie Marker is credited with creating International Cheetah Day.
  • Dr Marker founded the Cheetah Conservation Fund in 1991 and she designated December 4 as International Cheetah Day in 2010. Since that year, the world has been celebrating this day.
  • Dr Marker chose December 4th as it was the birthday of a cheetah named Khayam who she raised from a cub at Wildlife Safari in Oregon.
  • Khayam was trained for the first research project in re-wilding and inspired her first trip to Namibia in 1977.

 

Wildlife Conservation Day

 

  • On December 4, the world dedicates a special day towards wildlife conservation.
  • World Wildlife Conservation Day aims to raise awareness, conserve and provide protection for endangered species such as elephants, rhinos, and tigers.
