International Webinar on Inputs to Policy on Empowering Young Scientists

 

What's the NEWS

  • An International Webinar titled "Inputs to Policy on Empowering Young Scientists" was conducted jointly by the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA) to the Government of India, the Indian National Young Academy of Sciences (INYAS), and the Indian Institute of Technology - Banaras Hindu University.
  • The webinar, is a part of the Office of PSA's initiative on Empowering Young Scientists with the aim to collate inputs on a new policy document to nurture and empower the next generation of young scientists and researchers (≤45 years) in India that would translate into excellence in scientific and technological leadership for furthering the research and development in the country.
Indian National Young Academy of Sciences (INYAS)
  • It is the first and only recognized young scientist academy of India.
  • INYAS was founded by the INSA council in December 2014 with a vision to promote Science education and networking among young scientists at National as well as International level.
  • INYAS provides a platform to exchange ideas, initiate discussions on scientific topics, collaborations among the new generation of scientists and to make the voices of the young researchers be heard by senior academicians and policy makers of the country.

 

Know! about INSA

  • Indian National Science Academy (INSA), New Delhi is an autonomous institution of Dept. Science & Technology, Govt. of India.
  • However, the origins of INSA can be traced back to the founding of National Institute of Sciences in India (NISI) in the year 1935 in Calcutta (now Kolkata).
  • Objective - to promote, nurture and safeguard the interests of sciences and scientists.
  • The NISI was recognized by the Government of India, as a Premier National Scientific Society.
  • NISI moved to its present premises in Delhi in 1951.
  • A Government of India's decision in 1968 mandated INSA to represent India in all the international science fora.
  • In 1970, NISI was given a new name- Indian National Science Academy (INSA)
  • In 2015 INSA has constituted a junior wing for young scientists in the country named Indian National Young Academy of Sciences (INYAS) in line with other national young academies.

 

Know! about Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA)

 

  • The Government of India established the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA) in November 1999.
  • The PSA's office aims to provide pragmatic and objective advice to the Prime Minister and the cabinet in matters of Science and Technology.
  • The Office of PSA was placed under the Cabinet Secretariat in August, 2018.

World's longest river cruise-Ganga Vilas

  • The world's longest river cruise-Ganga Vilas-from Varanasi to Dibrugarh via Bangladesh is all set to be flagged off on January 13 by PM Narendra Modi.
  • MV Ganga Vilas will cover a distance of over 3,200 km across 27 river systems in five Indian states and Bangladesh.
  • The ship has three decks, and 18 suites on board with a capacity of 36 tourists.
  • Tourists will have the chance to explore more than 50 noteworthy architectural sites, including world heritage sites.
  • MV Ganga Vilas is 62 metres long and 12 metres wide and it has three decks, 18 suites with a capacity of 36 passengers and all amenities to, provide a luxurious experience.

  • India successfully carries out a test launch of the indigenously developed nuclear-capable Prithvi-II surface-to-surface missile.
  • The test was carried out from the Chandipur test range off the Odisha coast.
  • A well-established system, Prithvi-II missile, has been an integral part of India's nuclear deterrence.
  • The missile struck its target with high accuracy.

  • The Prithvi-II missile has a range of around 350 kilometres.
  • It is capable of carrying 500-1,000 kilogram of warheads and is powered by liquid propulsion twin engines. ·
  • It is fuelled by liquid propellant only
