India Wins GSMA Government Leadership Award 2023
What's the NEWS
- GSM Association (GSMA) has conferred Government Leadership Award 2023 to India for implementing best practices in telecom policy and regulation.
- GSMA Awards represent global recognition of the telecom reforms
- GSMA, which represents more than 750 mobile operators and 400 companies in the telecom ecosystem, recognizes one country every year.
- India was declared winner in the ceremony held at Mobile World Congress Barcelona on 27 Feb, 2023.
- The GSM Association (commonly referred to as 'the GSMA' or Global System for Mobile Communications, originally Groupe Special Mobile) is an industry organisation that represents the interests of mobile network operators worldwide.
- The GSMA represents its members via industry programmes, working groups and industry advocacy initiatives.
- The GSMA was formed in 1995 as the 'GSM MoU Association' as a body to support and promote mobile operators using the GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) standard for cellular networks.
- The GSMA represents the mobile industry to governments and institutions where it advocates policy and regulatory positions on behalf of its members.
- The GSMA's Mobile World Congress Barcelona (MWC Barcelona) is the largest annual exhibition and conference dedicated to the mobile industry, attracting more than 109,000 visitors in 2019.
- The event was first held in 1987.
Grievance Appellate Committee (GAC)
What's the NEWS
- The Minister of State for Electronics & Information Technology launched the Grievance Appellate Committee, a faceless dispute resolution mechanism that makes digital platforms - big and small, accountable toDigitalNagriks.
Know! about GAC
- The GAC was one of the provisions in the recently amended Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.
- Three such bodies have been constituted comprising of professionals from various fields.
- The GACs will work in the most transparent manner and all their decisions will be uploaded on website and accessible to the public
- The DigitalNagriks can file an appeal with the GACs within a period of 30 days from the date of receipt of communication from the intermediary's Grievance Officer.
- This Committee will subsequently endeavour to address the user's appeal within a period of 30 days.

Environment and Climate Sustainability Working Group
What's the NEWS
- The Second Environment and Climate Sustainability Working Group (ECSWG) meeting will be held at Gandhinagar from 27-29 March 2023.
- India shall be holding the Presidency of G20 for one year, till 30th November 2023. The forum will bring together the G20 member countries, guest countries and international organisations invited by India.
- Through the Sherpa Track, 13 Working Groups and 2 initiatives will meet under India's Presidency to discuss priorities and provide recommendations.
- Environment and Climate Sustainability is one of working groups under the Sherpa track.
- Four Meetings of the Environment and Climate Sustainability Working Group (ECSWG) are scheduled to be held at Bengaluru, Gandhinagar, Mumbai and Chennai.
- These meetings will be hosted by Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC).
Raisina Dialogue

- In the first Prime Ministerial visit from Italy to India in five years, Giorgia Meloni will visit India from March 2 to 3 and will also be the chief guest and keynote speaker at the 8th Raisina Dialogue

- It is a multilateral conference held annually in New Delhi, India.
- Since its inception in 2016, the conference has emerged as India's flagship conference on geopolitics and geo-economics.
- The conference is hosted by the Observer Research Foundation, an independent think tank, in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs of India.
- The conference is structured as a multi-stakeholder, cross-sectoral discussion, involving a variety of global policymakers including heads of states, cabinet ministers and local government officials.
- In addition, the Dialogue also welcomes major private sector executives, as well as members of the media and academia.
- It is designed on the lines of Singapore's Shangri-La Dialogue.
- The name "Raisina Dialogue" comes from Raisina Hill, an elevation in New Delhi, seat of the Government of India, as well as the Presidential Palace of India, Rashtrapati Bhavan.

- Established in 1990, the ORF is an independent, nonpartisan think tank that conducts policy research on good governance, foreign policy, and sustainable economic development for India.
- ORF's work spans a wide range of topics, including climate, energy, cyber issues and media, economic development, and national security.
- It provides non-partisan, independent, well-researched analyses and inputs to diverse decision-makers in governments, business communities, academia, and to civil society around the world.
- It seeks to lead and aid policy thinking towards building a strong and prosperous India in a fair and equitable world.
Shangri-La Dialogue (SLD)
- The IISS Asia Security Summit: The Shangri-La Dialogue (SLD) is a "Track One" inter-governmental security conference held annually in Singapore by an independent think tank, the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS).
- The dialogue is commonly attended by defence ministers, permanent heads of ministries and military chiefs of mostly Asia-Pacific states.
- The forum's name is derived from the Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore, where it has been held since 2002.
Attukal Ponkala
What's the NEWS
- Attukal Pongala is a famous Malayalam festival celebrated annually at Attukal Bhagavathy Temple.
- It is a 10-day long festival celebrated annually at Attukal Bhagavathy Temple in Trivandrum, Kerala.
- This festival is dedicated to Attukal Bhagavathy, also known as Goddess Kannaki or Bhadrakali.
- It is celebrated every year and falls in the month of February or March.
- Pongala, which means 'to boil over', is the ritual in which women prepare sweet payasam (a pudding made from rice, jaggery, coconut and plantains cooked together) and offer it to the Goddess or ‘Bhagavathy'.
- This ritual is performed on the 9th day as on the ninth day of the festival the world famous Attukal Pongala Mahotsavam takes place.
- It is one of the largest congregation of women for a festival in the world.
- During the 10-days festivities, a sacrificial offering known as Kuruthitharpanam is also included in the religious event.
Parivar Pehchan Patra (PPP) Scheme

- Haryana is hosting the first Anti-Corruption Working Group meeting under the G20 Summit in Gurugram from March 1 to 4. On the occasion, information about the Haryana government's Parivar Pehchan Patra (PPP) and IT-based welfare schemes will also be displayed,"
- The PPP scheme makes citizens able to take benefits of government schemes and services by sitting at home through online medium.
- It also brings transparency in the system and eliminates middlemen so as to stop ineligible people from taking advantage of any scheme
Know! about Parivar Pehchan Patra (PPP) Scheme
- It was launched by the Haryana Government in 2015.
- The primary objective of PPP is to create authentic, verified, and reliable data of all families in Haryana.
- PPP identifies each and every family in Haryana and keeps the basic data of the family, provided with the consent of the family, in a digital format.
- Under the scheme, a unique identity card called Parivar Pehchan Patra (PPP) is launched through which the state government aims to monitor all the families living across the state.
- Under PPP, each family is considered a single unit. Each family will be provided an eight-digit Family Id.
- The Family ID will be linked to the Birth, Death, and Marriage records to ensure automatic updating of the family data as and when such life events happen.
Karakattam Dance

Know! about Karakattam Dance
- Karakattam is a form of folk dance performed at festivals, conferences, road shows, and primarily at Mariamman festivals.
- It is one of the many creative traditions that owe their existence to Mariamman, the rain goddess.
- While the dance form is not dying, it has undergone radical change and adaptation in recent years.
- Karakattam and agriculture have a link. It is because the Mariamman pooja is held in the month of Medam after Makarakkoythu (harvest season) in Kerala.
- Karakattam is mostly famous in Tamil Nadu, it's performed in different parts of Kerala as well.
- Karakattam performances are characterised by a lot of swaying movements and joyous banter.
