• The fifth international Dharma-Dhamma conference was inaugurated by Union Minister of State Kiren Rijiju in the presence of Sri Lanka's Home Minister Gamini Jaiwickrama Perera, Bhutan's Home and Culture Minister Lyonpo Sherub Gyeltshen

• This conference was held on July 27-28. 200 and delegates from 15 countries have registered themselves as participants in the conference.
• The main purpose of this conference is to address people about the terror, violence and global warming prevalent in the world.
• This two-day conference will address the subjects of Sat-Chit-Ananda and Nirvana which are the pivotal topics of Buddhism.
• This conference is being hosted by Rajgir for the second time. "The Dharma-Dhamma conference will act as a platform for the Hindu and Buddhist thinkers to express their views.
• The conference was organised by Nalanda University (NU) in collaboration with New Delhi's Centre for Study of Religion and Society-India Foundation (CSRS-IF).
• Dharma-Dhamma conference being hosted by India benefit international community as well and also act as a platform for Hindu and Buddhist thinkers to express their views. It will help strengthen ties with other Asian countries.

High level committee formed to strategies preparations for 2020, 2024 Olympics

• Government to set up India House for Tokyo Olympics
• A high level 10-member committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju to coordinate and strategise the preparation for the 2020 and 2024 Olympics.

• The objective of the committee is to ensure that the performance of the Indian athletes are optimised in the Olympics and other multidisciplinary events.
• The committee comprises prominent sportspersons like Olympic medallists -- tennis ace Leander Paes and shooter Gagan Narang.
• The aim of the committee for the Tokyo Games would be to provide all possible support to potential and qualified athletes, facilitating smooth logistical arrangements for participation of the Indian athletes, ensuring seamless acclimatisation and hospitable environment for the contingent.
• For the 2024 Paris Games, the committee would chart out a road-map for the preparation and then will continuously review and suggest course correction whenever required.
• It will also prepare a strategy for bidding of multidisciplinary sporting events in future.

Khelo India Youth Games to be held in Guwahati next year

What's the NEWS

• The third edition of Khelo India Youth (KIYG) Games will be held in Guwahati next year.
• The Games to be held from 18^th January next year, will see participation of more than 10,000 athletes and officials.
• It will be conducted in partnership with Indian Olympic Association, School Games
• Federation of India & Assam as host State. The inaugural edition was held in New Delhi, while Pune hosted the second one this year.

• KIYG formerly called Khelo India School Games (KISG) are held annually in month of January or February.
• These are National level multidisciplinary grassroots games held for two categories i.e Under-17 years school students Under-21 college students
• Every year best performing 1000 participants are given an annual scholarship of INR 5,00,000 for 8 years to prepare them for international sporting events.
• It was introduced by Union Ministry of Sports to revive sports culture in India at grass-root level and to build a strong framework for all sports played in country as well as establish India as a great sporting nation

Odisha Rasagola gets GI Tag, after West Bengal

• Odisha has received a GI tag for its version of Rasgulla, a year after west Bengal got the GI tag for its version of Rasagola in November 2017.
• Odisha had been claiming the geographical tag for the sweet since a few years. GI registry based in Chennai, issued the formal certification for "Odisha Rasagola".

• Odisha Small Industries Corporation Limited (OSIC) has been registered as the official holder of Odisha Rasagola's GI tag.
• OSIC will hold all legal and intellectual rights over the product. After West Bengal received the GI tag for its rasgulla, Odisha government had renewed its claim and filed a petition for ownership over ‘Odisha rasagola'.
• West Bengal received GI Tag for its variety of Rasgulla in November 2017. Though both states have received the GI tag for the same product, the tag recognises two distinct varieties of the sweet, in terms of taste and texture.
• The origin of Rasgulla sweet has been a matter of discord between Odisha and West Bengal for a few years.
• The Geographical Indication Registry has registered both OSIC and Utkala Mistanna Byabasayee Samiti as proprietors of Odisha rasagola's GI tag.
• The OSIC has named 30 districts in Odisha as geographical areas entitled to use the GI tag of Odisha Rasagola.
• The GI tag is a name used on certain products that relates to a specific geographical location or origin.
• The GI tag ensures that no one besides the authorised users is allowed to use the product name.
• The first GI tagged product in India was Darjeeling tea in 2004-2005. Since then, as many as 321 products have been added to the list.

First batch of Boeing AH-64E Apache helicopters reaches

• The first batch of Boeing AH-64E Apache Guardian Attack helicopters arrived at the Indian Air Force Hindon airbase
• These are the first four of the 22 choppers ordered by India from the US.
• Four more Apaches will arrive in the coming week. Thereafter, eight will be moved to Pathankot Air Force Station for their formal induction in the IAF in September.
