Navigating the New Normal

What's the NEWS
  • NITI Aayog, in partnership with Bill andMelinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), Centre for Social and Behavioural Change (CSBC), Ashoka University, and the Ministries of Health and WCD, today launched a behaviour change campaign called ‘Navigating the New Normal', and its website.
Know! about campaign
  • Developed under the guidance of Empowered Group 6, constituted by the Government of India and chaired by CEO, NITI Aayog, the campaign has two parts.
  • The first is a web portal, http://www.covidthenewnormal.com/, containing resources informed by behavioural science and the use of nudge and social norms theory, related to Covid-safe behavioural norms during the ongoing Unlock phase, and the second is a media campaign focused on the wearing of masks.

  • Developed in consultation with MoHFW and other stakeholders, the website aims to increase public participation and engage CSOs and NGOs.
  • It will become a repository of strategies and collaterals to practise Covid-safe behaviours in different sectors.
  • It aims to provide open-source access to anyone, including CSOs, NGOs, the public, institutions, anganwadi workers and district administration.
  • With the availability of this information, institutions and civil society organisations can plan to resume their normal activities while practising Covid-safe behaviours.
The portal focuses on easy implementation of four key behaviours in the unlock phase:
  • mask-wearing
  • social distancing
  • hand hygiene
  • not spitting in public

Defence Conclave 2020

What's the NEWS

  • Two-day digital conference on the defence & aerospace manufacturing sector ‘Defence Conclave 2020, Gujarat' via video conferencing has been inaugurated
  • It is jointly organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Gujarat and Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM).

Know! about the conclave

  • The Conclave will bring together high-level government representatives, key industry and academia to discuss, deliberate and exchange ideas, viewpoints and knowledge about critical defence offset policies, sector analyses and review choices of technology available globally for the manufacturing and production of indigenous defence systems.
  • The Conclave intends to build on the positives of the ‘Make in India' vision for boosting the defence manufacturing.

Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM).

  • The Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM) is a not-for-profit association formed to be the apex body of the Indian defence industry.
  • SIDM plays a proactive role as an advocate, catalyst, and facilitator for the growth and capability building of the defence industry in India.
  • It works closely with the government towards enabling the growth of the defence industry.
  • Collaborate with experts from the armed forces, academia and defence industry to optimize the industry's development capabilities.

eBloodServices Mobile App

What's the NEWS

  • The Health & Family Welfare Ministry has launched the ‘eBloodServices' mobile App developed by The Indian Red Cross Society (ICRS)
  • This application is developed by the E-Raktkosh team of Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC) under the Digital India scheme

Know! the objective of this app

  • Many people require blood related services on regularly because of certain medical conditions in their families.
  • Through this App, four units of blood can be requisitioned at a time and the blood bank will wait for as long as 12 hours for the person to collect it.
  • This app makes it easy for those in need to request for Blood units at IRCS NHQ.
  • At a time when the country is facing such a pandemic, the Mobile App will provide succor to all those who direly require blood
  • Once the request is placed through the app, the requisite units become visible to IRCS, NHQ blood bank in its E-Raktkosh dashboard and this allows assured delivery within the specified time.
  • This feature will make it easy for a blood seeker to obtain blood & shall bring the added advantage of complete transparency & single window access to the service.

KVIC launches Sandalwood and Bamboo plantation

What's the NEWS

  • The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), in a first of its kind initiative has begun exploring the untapped but highly profitable venture of sandalwood and bamboo tree plantation for monetization of its assets.

Know! about the initiative of KVIC

  • The plantation of the Sandalwood has also been planned with an eye on creating an asset for the KVIC as it is estimated to fetch between Rs 50 crore to Rs 60 crore in the next 10 to 15 years.
  • Likewise, a special variety of bamboo, Bambusa Tulda, used for making Agarbatti sticks, brought from Assam has been planted in Maharashtra with an aim to support the local Agarbatti industry and to create regular income for the training center.

Know! about KVIC

  • The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) is a statutory body formed in April 1957 (as per an RTI) by the Government of India, under the Act of Parliament, 'Khadi and Village Industries Commission Act of 1956'.
  • It is an apex organisation under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, with regard to khadi and village industries within India
  • It seeks to - "plan, promote, facilitate, organise and assist in the establishment and development of khadi and village industries in the rural areas in coordination with other agencies engaged in rural development wherever necessary

Indian National Space promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACE)

What's the NEWS

  • The Union cabinet approved the creation of Indian National Space promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACE) to provide level playing field for private companies to use space infrastructure

Know! the benefits

  • The decision taken is in line with the long-term vision of transforming India and making the country self-reliant and technologically advanced.
  • ISRO will guide the private industries in space activities through encouraging policies in a friendly regulatory environment
  • The move will "unlock India's potential in space sector".
  • It will also hand-hold, promote and guide the private industries in space activities.
  • These programmes will allow ISRO to focus more on research and development activities, new technologies, exploration missions and human spaceflight programme.

Know! about IN-SPACE

  • IN-SPACE (Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre), a new board that provide private players a level playing field
  • The body will also perform the role of a regulator and will have on its board members from the private industry
  • IN-SPACE will be a separate vertical within the Department of Space (DoS) that will make independent decisions for permitting and regulating activities of the private sector
  • It will have its own legal, technological, activity promotion and monitoring directorates and its Board will comprise members from the private industry, academia and government of India

Know! about New Space India Limited (NSIL)

  • The Public Sector Enterprise ‘New Space India Limited (NSIL)' will endeavour to re-orient space activities from a ‘supply driven' model to a ‘demand driven' model, thereby ensuring optimum utilisation of space assets.
  • NSIL is a Central Public Sector Enterprise of Government of India.
  • It was established on 6 March 2019 under the administrative control of Department of Space (DOS), India.
  • The main objective of NSIL is to scale up industry participation in Indian space programmes.
  • It is also responsible for promotion and commercial exploitation of the products and services emanating from the Indian space programme.
  • Antrix Ltd is another PSU under the Department of Space that acts as a commercial arm of ISRO
