TRIBAL HEALTH AND NUTRITION PORTAL ‘SWASTHYA'

What's the NEWS
- Union Tribal Affairs Minister launched "Swasthya", a first of its kind Tribal Health & Nutrition Portal: One-stop solution for the health & nutrition status of the tribal population of India
- The Ministry of Tribal Affairs in collaboration with Piramal Swasthya, the Centre of Excellence has developed this Tribal Health and Nutrition Portal ‘Swasthya', a one-stop solution presenting all information pertaining to tribal health and nutrition related to Scheduled Tribe people.
- ‘Swasthya' is the first of its kind comprehensive platform for health and nutrition related information of the tribal population of India.
- It has a dashboard, knowledge repository, partner segment, Sickle Cell Diseases (SCD) support corner.
- The dashboard presents data curated from multiple sources for the 177 identified high priority tribal districts.
- In addition, the Portal also has research studies, innovations and best practices on tribal community curated from multiple sources related to tribal health and nutrition.
- It is hoped that this Portal will bridge the existing knowledge, drive evidence-based policy making and catalyze a series of actions which will ultimately lead to overall improvements in the health and nutrition status of the tribal population in India.
- The Portal will be managed by the Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Knowledge Management in Health and Nutrition, established by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs in collaboration with Piramal Swasthya Management and Research Institute.
- This CoE works towards consolidating data for tribal health & nutrition, facilitating evidence-based policy making, documenting successful models, best practices and innovative solutions, disseminating and facilitating exchange of knowledge, creating networks and collaborating with stakeholders to improve tribal health & nutrition outcomes.
- Going Online as Leaders (GOAL) Programme is the initiative of the Ministry in partnership with Facebook
- Through the GOAL Programme, the Ministry aims to mentor 5000 Tribal Youth across India and enable them to become village-level digital young leaders for their communities.
- The initiative will realize its objectives and result in empowering tribal youth to become leading resource in their area of influence and help tribal youth and enable them to gain leadership skills, identify problems in their society, find solutions and use their knowledge for society's socio-economic status.
- The Ministry of Tribal Affairs has been recently awarded the 66th SKOCH Gold Award for "Empowerment of Tribals through IT enabled Scholarship Schemes" under guidance of DBT Mission.
NEW BUILDING OF NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF SOCIAL DEFENCE

What's the NEWS
- Union Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment, e-inaugurated the new building of National Institute of Social Defence (NISD)
Know! about NSID
- NISD is the nodal training and research institute in the field of social defence which focuses on human resource development for drug abuse prevention, welfare of senior citizens and transgenders, beggary prevention, and other social defence issues.
- It provides inputs for the social defence programmes to the Government of India.
- It also conducts training and research in the field, apart from ensuring the implementation of various programmes under the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction and National Action Plan for Senior Citizens.
- NISD's major areas of concern are Substance Abuse Prevention, Care of Older Persons, and Other Social Defence issues including Beggary Prevention, and welfare of Transgenders.
- The institute conducts research on social defence issues, apart from compiling and analysing statistics in the area.
- NISD has three main divisions, namely National Centre for Drug Abuse Prevention (NCDAP), Old Age Care Division and Social Defence.
- NCDAP implements the activities of National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction through Community-based Peer-Led Intervention & Outreach Drop-In-Centres across states.
- The Old Age Care Division runs a series of programmes/certificate courses to develop a cadre of professionals for the care and welfare of older persons.
- The Social Defence division trains/sensitizes the Govt./NGOs/Panchayat/Police functionaries and Social Work professionals on social defence issues like beggary prevention and transgender welfare through its national-level one-month programmes and short-term state-level programmes.

NASHAMUKT BHARAT CAMPAIGN

What's the NEWS
- Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment addressed the gathering of 272 District Collectors, Officers of Narcotics Control Bureau, Doctors and all the officers involved with "Nasha Mukt Bharat" campaign in the States and Districts
Know! about Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign
- The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has formulated ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign' being implemented in 272 districts which are identified as most affected in terms of usage of substances.
- State Governments and the 272 District Collectors are going to launch the Nasha Mukht Bharat Campaign on 15th August 2020 which will run for 7 months till 31st March 2021.
- District and State level Nasha Mukt Bharat Committees formed would devise a strategy and Action plan for the campaign.
- These committees would ensure that campaign activities are effectively implemented, and the objectives of the campaign are met.
- These 272 districts have been identified based on the inputs received from Narcotics Control Bureau and the findings on the comprehensive National survey done by the Ministry.
- The Campaign focuses on 272 most affected districts by launching a three-pronged attack combining efforts of Narcotics Bureau, Outreach/Awareness by Social Justice and Treatment through the Health Department.
The Campaign Plan has the following components:
- Awareness generation programmes;
- Focus on Higher Educational institutions, University Campuses and Schools;
- Community outreach and identification of dependent population;
- Focus on Treatment facilities in Hospital settings; and
- Capacity Building Programmes for Service Provider.

Odisha bags 1st position in AMRUT scheme

What's the NEWS
- Odisha continued to be the top performer in implementation of Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation Scheme (AMRUT) by making significant strides in providing piped water supply to households in urban areas of the State.
- According to the ranking of the states released by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Odisha has secured first position by scoring 85.67 per cent.
- Odisha is followed by Chandigarh, Telangana, Gujarat and Karnataka in the implementation of AMRUT.
Know! about AMRUT
- Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation was launched by Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi in June 2015 with the focus to establish infrastructure that could ensure adequate robust sewage networks and water supply for urban transformation by implementing urban revival projects.
The purpose of Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) is to
- Ensure that every household has access to a tap with the assured supply of water and a sewerage connection.
- Increase the amenity value of cities by developing greenery and well maintained open spaces (e.g. parks) and
- Reduce pollution by switching to public transport or constructing facilities for non-motorized transport (e.g. walking and cycling).
- All these outcomes are valued by citizens, particularly women, and indicators and standards have been prescribed by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA ) in the form of Service Level Benchmarks (SLBs).

Naval Innovation and Indigenisation Organisation

- Defence Minister Rajnath Singh launched the Naval Innovation and Indigenisation Organisation (NIIO)
Know! about NIIO
- The NIIO puts in place dedicated structures for the end users to interact with academia and industry towards fostering innovation and indigenisation for self-reliance in defence.
- The NIIO is a three-tiered organisation. Naval Technology Acceleration Council (N-TAC) will bring together the twin aspects of innovation and indigenisation and provide apex level directives.
- A working group under the N-TAC will implement the projects.
- A Technology Development Acceleration Cell (TDAC) has also been created for induction of emerging disruptive technology in an accelerated time frame.
- The Draft Defence Acquisition Policy 2020 (DAP 20) rolled out by the Defence Ministry last month envisaged establishment of Innovation and Indigenisation Organisation by the Service Headquarters.
- Indian Navy already has a functional Directorate of Indigenisation and the new structures created will build upon the ongoing indigenisation initiatives, as well as focus on innovation.
- A compendium of Indian Navy's Indigenisation perspective plans titled ‘SWAVLAMBAN' was also released on the occasion.
