Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (popularly known as BMC) was started in the year 1955 by Dr. Shivram and Dr. Mekhri. It was initially run by Mysore Education Society as a private medical college. The college was later handed over to the Government of Karnataka in 1956 and was affiliated to Bangalore University. In the year 1996 it got affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. Being the only government medical college in Bangalore, it is one of the most sought-after colleges of the country.

Eligibility Criteria

Course Details

MBBS

Candidate must have passed Karnataka 2nd PUC / 12th std. or equivalent exam with PHYSICS, CHEMISTRY & BIOLOGY as optional subjects with ENGLISH as one of the languages of study and obtained at least 50% marks in the PCB group. 40% in the case of SC / ST / Category-1 candidates provided that for Dental course, the candidate must have secured 50% marks in the optional subjects including English subject.

MD / MS

MBBS Degree

DM

MD Degree (or its equivalent recognized degree) in the subject specified. Must possess MCh courses in any subject must possess recognized degree of MS

MCh

MS Degree (or its equivalent recognized degree) in the subject specified

BSc Nursing

Candidates should have passed their 10+2 Examination conducted by Karnataka State with English as one of the subjects and Physics Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects. Candidates should have passed all the above-mentioned subjects individually and also needs to secure 45% marks in PCBE.

MSc Nursing

55% in B.Sc. Nursing (Basic) or B.Sc. Hons. Nursing or Post Basic B.Sc. in Nursing degree or Post Certificate B.Sc. Nursing from RGUHS, or any other University located in Karnataka state, accepted as equivalent by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka. (50% For SC/ST)

Paramedical Courses 

For Certificate programmes, candidates must have passed class X (SSLC)

Diploma

Candidate must have passed 10+2 with relevant subject

3.Exam Pattern

MBBS:

  • Entrance Examination: NEET UG
  • Exam Mode: Offline
  • Number of Questions: Physics and Chemistry sections include 45 questions each, while the Biology section comprises 90 questions
  • Exam Duration: 3 hours
  • Marking Pattern: Candidates will be awarded 4 marks for each correct response while 1 mark will be deducted for each incorrect response.

MD / MS/ PG Diploma:

  • Entrance Examination: NEET PG
  • Exam Mode: Computer Based Test
  • Exam Duration: 3 hours and 30 minutes
  • Number of Questions: 200
  • Exam Syllabus: 3 sections; clinical, pre-clinical and para-clinical subjects.
  • Marking Pattern: Candidates will be awarded 4 marks for each correct response while 1 mark will be deducted for each incorrect response.

4. Admission Process

MBBS:

  • NEET score is the only criteria to secure admission in the MBBS programme offered by BMCRI. BMCRI conducts its own counselling for 85% of the total available seats with respect to NEET score. Centralized counselling is conducted for rest of the 15% seats (All India based). It is regulated by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) and Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

MD / MS / Diploma:

  • Admission will be filled up of 50 % seats through State Entrance Examination which will be conducted by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and 50% of seats will be filled up by All India Entrance Examination conducted by Director General of Health Services, (Medical Examination Cell) New Delhi on merit basis.

DM / MCh:

  • Admission procedure for entire MCh / DM courses is through Postgraduate entrance conducted by RGUHS.

Fellowship Program:

  • Admission procedure is through advertisement for application from eligible candidates, walk in interview with screening from expert committee and selection of successful candidates.

BSc / MSc:

  • Seats are filled up through RGUHS.

Paramedical Courses:

  • Courses are filled through paramedical board through state level counselling of Eligible candidates.

5. Reservation Policy

  • 85% of the seats are reserved for students of Karnataka under state quota and 15% under all India quota.
  • Additionally, 50% of seats are reserved for SC, ST and OBCs.
  • Candidates belonging to SC/ST category will be benefited by a 10% of marks relaxation in 12th standard to be considered eligible for the concerned course.
