One Program, Two Pathways

AUC’s global perspective allows eligible students to begin their MD journey on campus in Sint Maarten, or at AUC’s program site in the United Kingdom through AUC partnership with the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) in Preston, UK.

Note: The U.K. track is open to non-U.S. citizens.

Global Electives

Students have the option to complete a six-week clinical rotation in one of six countries: 

  • The Dominican Republic, 
  • India, 
  • Thailand, 
  • Uganda, 
  • Vietnam, or 
  • Zimbabwe. 

Students gain hands-on training and exposure to different healthcare systems. These valuable experiences are also strong talking points during residency interviews.

Admission Criteria at AUC University

You must have studied an undergraduate program in medicine with at least two semesters, including labs for each of the following subjects:

  • General Biology
  • General Chemistry
  • Organic Chemistry or
  • Biochemistry

AND 

One semester of: 

  • General Physics, 
  • Calculus, or 
  • Statistics

If you fall short on all of these you might be offered a Medical Education Readiness Program (MERP). 

Note: Substitutions and/or exceptions for med-school prerequisites are made

on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the admissions committee. 

When you are required to attend MERP?

  • If you have scored below-average grades in foundational science subjects.
  • If you are a working professional and stayed away from education for over 10 years.
  • If you have not studied any of the science related courses as specified above.

What to expect in MERP?

  • MERP is required if you have been offered conditional acceptance into the medical school
  • 15- week Virtual program
  • 3 Sessions in a year- April, August, and December 
  • Time Zone- ET(Eastern Time Zone)

Non-U.S. Citizens/Permanent Residents: 

  • NEET,
  • MCAT, 
  • UCAT, or 
  • GAMSAT

Note: NEET, MCAT, and UCAT scores will be considered ONLY if they are less than 5 years of taking the exam. However, GAMSAT scores are valid ONLY if they are 2 years old.

U.S. Citizens/Permanent Residents of the U.S.: 

  • MCAT


Note: These Medical Admissions Tests might be waived off for students coming from areas where there is no access to these exams, like Africa. However, you must show strong knowledge and excellent grades in science subjects to be considered for the waiver.

  • Personal Statement/Statement of Purpose(SOP): It should be atmost 750 words.
  • Letters of Recommendation/reference: It is necessary to provide a minimum of one academic and one professional letter. If a professional letter is not available, two academic letters may be sent.
  • Educational/Employment History
  • Resume in chronological order 
  • Transcripts: Unofficial transcripts are allowed for the first review; but, in order to assure authenticity at the time of admission, you are required to present final official transcripts from the institution prior to matriculation.

Scholarships for the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine

Academic Merit Scholarship

Eligibility:

  • Either a minimum MCAT score of 490 (the latest MCAT edition) or a minimum undergraduate overall GPA of 3.00 are required.
  • You need to have an acceptance offer from AUC for the first semester.

Award: $15,000

Dean's Academic Scholarship

Eligibility:

  • Either a minimum MCAT score of 505 (the current MCAT score) or a minimum undergraduate overall GPA of 3.50 is required.
  • You need to have an acceptance offer from AUC for the first semester.

Award: $25,000 

Trustee's Academic Excellence Scholarship

Eligibility:

  • A minimum MCAT score of 510 (the current MCAT score) or an undergraduate overall GPA of 3.70 is required.
  • You need to have an acceptance offer from AUC for the first semester.

Award: $45,000 

MERP Success Scholarship

Eligibility

  • You have to earn at least a 70% grade in MERP.
  • For the MD program, AUC matriculation is a requirement.

Award:$15,000 to $45,000

International Scholarship

Eligibility

  • You must be a citizen or permanent resident of a nation besides the United States or Canada.
  • You must have earned a bachelor's degree.

Award: $8,000- $80,000
