Globalization & its impact on Democracy
Globalization is not a term associated with the modern era but it is very prevalent from the 1820s. There has been a drastic change happening to the concept of globalization all these years and it is now no longer limited only to trade. The global market is supporting and improving the economies of many countries and many companies are solely depended on the global market for its growth. Globalization also helps in the friendship and bonding of different countries. Some countries developed very quickly by analysing the market and changing strategies according to the global trend. The strategy by China is an example, during the ancient times China competed in the global economy by trading agriculture or organic products and still the largest exporter of some agricultural products like soyabeans, animalhides and alfalfa. Even though they are one among the biggest exporters of agricultural products, they started the cheaper supply of electronic products and raw materials to the world market and now their products are flooded in the world market and attained a strong hold on to the world economy. India has also improved its IT sector by providing cheap labours and many developed countries are running their call centers here and making big investments in our country. Globalization also led to the migration and it opened a wide and vast opportunity for the people. Especially the people from under developed or developing countries prefer to move to a developed counties to stabilize his financial status and the companies from the developed countries know how to use this human resource efficiently to give better output with less money as the currency value of developed countries is higher than that of undeveloped countries. But the large scale movement of the human being from one country to other affects the democracy. In case of America, there are lot of migrants from different countries and they took American citizenship which means they have voting rights in America. Even though the people took citizenship, they have a feeling to their mother country and as a result if any kind of policy the officials make against the mother country, it may even affect the next election result. For example, America has a large number of permanent citizens from India who are eligible to cast their vote as a result the American policy may not harm India much. Also the Donald Trump organised a mega event named “Howdy Modi” with a hope to create an impression among Indians in America. In near future, such a huge population from a country can even have an impact on the election results of other country. Also the globalization helps in lessening the economic gap in the county by providing great opportunities in trade and the global market always accepts product which may have an impact globally. Lesser the economic gap, better will be the life condition. The improvement in life condition advances the growth and thinking ability of the citizen and the society as a whole develops drastically. Thus the government will be forced to provide better life facilities and also government will never have to spend much of its money and resources into policies which lessens the economic gap. Also a majority may start making unbiased choices which can have a big impact on the elections which will in turn help in the positive growth of political parties and as a whole, the nation will develop not only financially but also in terms of quality of its human resource.
