Strategy for UP PSC (Pre) Exam 2015
UP PSC (Pre) Exam 2015 will be held on 29th March, 2015. Hence, considering the forth-coming challenges, it is time to reinforce your previous preparation. An aspirant has to follow an effective approach of study to qualify the preliminary examination.
General Studies Paper - I
Following the analysis of previous years' question papers, it can be concluded that the prime objective of this paper is to test the factual as well as conceptual understanding, as well as the memory of an aspirant. Hence, practicing previous years' questions papers is mandatory and inevitable. This paper demands effective time management as the total number of questions is 150 and allotted time is two hours. In general, the question paper comprises questions from all arenas and from all walks of the syllabus; the 2012 & 2013 & 2014 questions paper had 44 questions from Geography, Ecology & Environment. The question paper is gyrated towards factual understanding with a slightly 'difficult to comprehend' structure. Since there is no penalty for wrong answers, a candidate should try responding to all the items. The questions are from wide range of fields, which itself makes the question paper difficult, and hence demands a comprehensive and an in-depth study. Aspirants are advised to emphasize on the points that are important according to the nature and pattern of the examination.
General Studies Paper - II
On analyzing the General Studies Paper - II, year 2012 & 2013 & 2014, it was found that this paper, in particular, consisted of 100 items, with the maximum marks being 200. This question paper comprised reading comprehensions, grammar and vocabulary questions in the English language as well as reading comprehensions and grammar questions in the Hindi language. Apart from the aforementioned section, the question paper also consisted of reasoning, quantitative aptitude, verbal and analytical reasoning, decision making and inter-personal communication. The reading comprehensions in both languages demanded a comparatively higher level of concentration, alertness and brainstorming as prima-facie, the questions seemed easy, but a candidate was more susceptible for the wrong responses. Therefore, questions related to idioms & phrases, vocabulary, spellings, etc can be solved accurately following regular and effective practice and revision. Moreover, the decision-making and inter personal communication sections demand a practice oriented study routine, and the inclusion of many established books in this routine will yield the desired results. In a nutshell, it can be stated that this question paper calls for ample and effective practice.
