The Indian Institutes of Management, popularly known as IIMs, are India's top institutes for management education and research. There are a total of 21 IIMs in India, offering post-graduate, doctoral, and executive programs for aspiring candidates. Every MBA aspirant hopes to secure admission into an IIM for a management program, usually through CAT, the entrance exam for these IIMs. However, the competition is fierce, with over 2 lakh students applying for CAT and vying for admission to the 5000+ seats available in the IIMs.
The Common Admission Test (CAT) is conducted annually in November for admission to the MBA and managerial programs at IIMs. Cracking the CAT is the initial step towards securing a seat in one of the top IIMs. Based on CAT scores, IIMs screen aspirants for the next step of the admission process, known as the PI/WAT/GD round. The Composite CAT Score, past academic performance, work experience, and WAT/GD/PI scores are evaluated to determine the final IIM admission lists, which are released individually by each IIM.
The Indian Institutes of Management, popularly known as the IIMs, are renowned for their management programs offering MBA, PGP, Executive MBA, and other courses. IIMs are widely recognized for their excellent faculty, infrastructure, academic profiles, training opportunities, and, most importantly, their rankings among the leading B-schools. Seven out of the 21 IIMs are considered among the top 10 business schools and are located across India.
The top 3 IIMs, namely IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, and IIM Calcutta, are globally recognized. Graduates can benefit from amazing and high-paying job offers in both corporate and government sectors. Admissions in IIMs are highly competitive and follow a rigorous process that includes multiple rounds, making it time-consuming. The primary consideration in the admission process is the CAT exam, which is the only acceptable entrance exam for all IIMs in India. Eligible candidates are shortlisted for subsequent rounds of WAT, GD, and PI, where candidates are evaluated based on their communication and writing skills for MBA/PGP courses. For executive PGP courses offered by these colleges, both CAT and GMAT scores are accepted. Admissions are based on the composite score of all the rounds, with the percentage weightage varying depending on the specific college.
Pursuing a degree from a top B-school like these IIMs will provide you with the best guidance, exposure, and infrastructure for your career progression. The placements and packages offered after completing an MBA from an IIM also contribute to the appeal of gaining admission to one of these prestigious institutes.
IIMs are the top destination in India for MBA programs, Managerial Executive Programs for working professionals, Doctorate Programs, and for research purposes. Below is the complete list of IIMs in India with the NIRF 2023 ranking.
