The Xavier's Aptitude Test (XAT) is a flagship entrance examination conducted by XLRI and is accepted by more than 160 institutes across India. The ideal duration for preparing for any entrance exam should be at least six to nine months, although this may vary for different students. While the XAT exam pattern is similar to that of CAT, it includes additional sections of decision-making and general knowledge which are not found in CAT.

Therefore, candidates can prepare for XAT by following the CAT strategy. The only sections that need separate preparation are the Decision Making (DM) and General Knowledge (GK) sections. Ideally, XAT preparation can begin after CAT, with more focus on these two sections.
