UPSC Prelims Study Resources

Prelims is the first phase of the recruitment process of UPSC CSE for the post of IAS, IPS, IF, IRS, etc. The Prelims Exam consists of 2 papers: General Studies (Paper I) & General Studies (Paper II). The UPSC CSE is a nationwide competitive exam conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). On the basis of this exam, the UPSC selects candidates for various Central and All India Civil Service Posts in IAS, IFS, IPS, IRS, etc.

Yes, you should definitely prepare for the CSAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test) because, even if you score high in the General Studies paper, you cannot proceed to the Mains exam if you don't clear the CSAT cut-off; therefore, neglecting CSAT preparation can significantly hinder your chances of progressing in the Civil Services Exam.

Here are 5 ways to kickstart your UPSC preparation without coaching:

Candidates planning to appear in the exam must be Indian Citizens and have a graduation degree or be in their final year at a government recognised university.

They must be between 21 and less than 32 years of age as of 1st August 2025. There is a 5-year age relaxation for candidates belonging to the SC/ST Category and a 3-year relaxation for candidates belonging to OBC. That is, they can appear for the exam till 37 and 35 years of age respectively.

UPSC aspirants from the General or EWS Category can appear for 6 attempts. Aspirants belonging to OBC, Defense Services Personnel, or Persons with Benchmark Disability can appear for 9 attempts. Candidates from SC/ ST can appear for unlimited attempts up to the permitted age limit.
