Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts the Civil Services Examination (CSE) in three phases namely, Prelims, Mains and Interview. Each of these rounds is an elimination round, hence candidates who qualify for UPSC Prelims result shall sit for Mains and the candidates who qualify the UPSC CSE Mains appear for Interview round.
The application process for UPSC CSE 2020 is now over. The notification was released in February and the last date to fill the application form was March 3rd, 2020.
UPSC CSE Prelims 2020 will be conducted on 31st May 2020. It will be a one-day examination consisting of two papers, General Studies I and CSAT. Each paper will be of 2 hours. The paper is conducted in offline mode. The admit card or the hall-ticket for UPSC CSE Prelims will be made available on the official website of UPSC in the third week of May 2020.
After the UPSC CSE Prelims is over, the commission releases the answer key. As per the latest trends, the UPSC will release the answer key for Civil Services Exam 2020 in the last week of June.
Furthermore, adhering to previous year trends, UPSC Prelims Result will be announced in the second week of July 2020. UPSC declares the result of the candidates on its official website. A PDF containing the roll numbers of students who qualify the exam is uploaded on the website. Soon after, the commission releases the cut-off for the Prelims Exam. Candidates can then, login with their roll numbers and password to check their marks.
Only those candidates who qualify the prelims will be allowed to appear for the Mains Exam. Candidates are advised not to wait for the UPSC Prelims result and start with the preparation of UPSC CSE Mains just after the Prelims Exam.

UPSC Prelims Result will be the first round of elimination. The candidates here are screened on the basis of a general understanding of Indian history, geography, polity, economy, and heritage. The cut-off for UPSC Prelims result is determined solely on the basis of performance in General Studies Paper. The CSAT paper is qualifying in nature.
The hall-tickets or the admit cards for UPSC CSE Mains will be released only for the candidates whose roll numbers appeared in UPSC Prelims Result. The hall-tickets for the Mains exam will be released in 1st week of September 2020.
The UPSC CSE Mains is scheduled to start on 18th September 2020. It will be a 5-day process wherein each day the candidates will have to appear in two shifts except day 1 on which only one paper (Essay) will be conducted in the forenoon session.
