There were 15 questions based on reading comprehension (3 passages - 5 questions each). Passages were a mix of stories and extracts from poems, but the extracts were easy to comprehend. The questions were direct, but the options were very close.
Other major topics in English were fill-in-the-blanks, one-word substitution, and para jumbles, there were 3-4 questions each from both the topics. Other minor topics included antonyms, synonyms, idioms, fill in the blanks, and spelling errors. The English paper more or less tested one’s acumen in grammar and vocabulary. Overall, the paper was easy, and students felt comfortable.
SHIFT - 2
The English paper for CUET (UG) 2023, day 1 & shift 2 was comparatively on the same line on the difficulty level as in shift 1. Students had different opinions on how easy the paper was, but none would rate it as difficult. This is similar to the opinion of students who took the test in the 1st shift.
From reading comprehension, there were 3 passages - 5 questions each. Passages were both stories and extracts from poems. The extracts were easy to moderate to comprehend. Questions from paragraphs were like, fill in the blanks, fact based questions, match the following, etc. Other major topics from which questions were asked in shift 2 were Incorrect/Correct statements & Direct/Indirect speech. 3-5 questions were asked from these two topics. Apart from these, there were questions from identification of parts of speech, metaphor/simile, there were 1-2 questions from all the topics from which questions were asked in shift 1 (1-2 questions). Overall, the English paper in shift 2 was easy (same as shift 1), and students didn’t face much difficulty in it.
Section II: Domain Subjects
Science: SHIFT 3

- Matrices: if matrix is singular or not, determinant, inverse of matrices - 4-5 questions
Other important topics from which questions came were - Application of Integrals, Relations and Functions, Differential Equations, Inverse Functions, etc.
Section III: General Test
SHIFT - 1
The General Test section on the first day (May 21), shift 1 was rated as easy by the students. Questions were based on a variety of topics such as Mathematics & Statistics, General Awareness, Discovery & Invention, Logic & Reasoning, and Sports.
The GT paper was very similar to Career Launcher Mocks with questions from elementary mathematics (approximately 20-25), the reasoning part had questions from calender and direction, 12-15 questions from General Awareness, 2-3 questions each from History & Science, 1-2 questions each from Science, Economics, Geography, Discovery & Invention, and Sports.
To give more brief and specific details regarding the types of questions asked in GT, it was a pretty easy and straightforward question.
The broad topics are as follows:
- Science: Vitamin Deficiency, Discovery of Zero, Discovery of watch
- History: Quit India Movement, Civil Disobedience movement
- Economic: Import-Export
- Books & Authors: Books written by Mahatma Gandhi, Shashi Tharoor
- Reasoning: Direction and logic related
- Numeric Ability: Percentages, Number system, Algebra, Mean, Median, Mode, Set Theory, Time & Work
SHIFT - 2
The General Test section on the first day (May 21), shift 2 was rated as easy to moderate by most of the students. Questions were based on similar topics as were asked in the first shift. The GT paper was very similar to Career Launcher Mocks with questions from Numerical Ability (approximately 22-24), General Awareness (10-12 questions), and Logical Reasoning (6-7 questions).
To give more brief and specific details regarding the types of questions asked in GT, it was a pretty easy and straightforward question.
The broad topics are as follows:
- Science: chemical Reaction, the chemical name of baking soda, questions of Biology
- Geometry: triangle, cube, parallelogram, volume of sphere and cylinder
- Economic: Economist award
- Books & Authors: Panchatantra
- Reasoning: Direction and logic related
- Numeric Ability: Percentages, Number system, Algebra, Ratio, and Proportion
- Other Topics: Time speed distance, profit and loss, simple interest, arithmetic progression, mean, sequences and series
Overall the student's experience in all the shifts of CUET (UG) 2023 day 1 was more or less easy to moderate only. However, the hassle caused by the delay in the start and finish of the exam in a few centers (owing to the large number of candidates writing papers at one center & their entry and exit) is expected to be sorted by the NTA and respective organizing centers at the earliest.
