Detailed Exam Analysis - (22nd May, 2023)
Section I: English
SHIFT - 1
The English paper for CUET (UG) 2023, Day 2 (shift 1), was comparatively on the easier line. Students had varied opinions on the degree of easiness, but most rated the exam easy. They were 15 questions based on reading comprehension (3 passages - 5 questions each). One passage was on APJ Abdul Kalam, the other was fiction, and the third was a poem on sportsmanship. Students found the poem a little difficult to comprehend compared to the other two passages. The questions were direct, but the options were very close and you need to make smart choices.
Other major topics in English were antonyms & synonyms and figures of speech, and there were 5-6 questions each from these two topics. Other minor topics included active-passive voice, idioms, sentence correction and fill-in-the-blank, containing 2-3 questions each. The English paper more or less tested one's acumen in grammar and vocabulary. Overall, the paper was easy, and students felt comfortable.
SHIFT - 2
The English paper for CUET (UG) 2023, Day 2 (shift 2), was also on the easier line. Students rated the exam easy. They were 15 questions based on reading comprehension (3 passages - 5 questions each). One passage was on the Kalinga War, the other was fiction, and the third was a poem on the effect of war. The questions were direct, but the options were tricky which needed to be dealt smartly.
Other major topics in English were based on adjectives, para jumble and figure of speech, they were 5-6 questions each from these topics. Other minor topics included Antonyms & synonyms (Extravagant, Vanity, Victory), active-passive voice, idioms, sentence correction and fill-in-the-blank, containing 2-3 questions each. The English paper more or less tested one's ability to comprehend the tricks of grammar and vocabulary smartly. Overall, the paper was easy, and students felt comfortable.
Section II: Domain Subject
Humanities: SHIFT - 2
History
Questions from these chapters were such as chronology of Mahatma Gandhi’s movements, year based match the following and multiple statements from various movements.
There were 2 Case studies containing 5 questions each out of which 2 questions were asked from the passage directly and the rest were fact based. 3-4 questions were from the topics - An Imperial Capital: Vijayanagara, Kings and Chronicles, The Mughal Courts
Other topics covered were from Peasants, Zamindars, the State Agrarian Society, the Mughal Empire, Colonialism and the Countryside: Exploring Official Archives, Understanding Partition Politics, Memories, Experiences, etc.
Political Science
The students rated the Political Science section as moderate on Day 2 (shift 2). Most of the questions were based on chapters such as Recent Developments in Indian Politics (Coalition, name of coalitions, constitution, etc), Rise of Popular Movements, and Cold War Era.
2-3 questions each were from topics such as The End of bipolarity, US Hegemony in World Politics, Alternative centers of Power, Contemporary South Asia, International Organizations, Security in Contemporary World, Environment and Natural Resources, Globalisation, etc.
Geography
The students rated the Geography section as moderate on Day 2 (shift 2). Various questions were like:
- Age- Sex Pyramid of which country is bell shaped
- Identify the correct statement about pack animals
- Which waterways serve eastern Europe?
- Identify the correct points about human development report
- Largest linguistic group of India
- A Question based on Sugar Industry
- Lowest female literacy rate according to the 2011 census?
Science: SHIFT - 3
Physics
From the experience and inputs received from the students, the physics paper had a moderate rating. This is the same as was the experience of the students of day 1 shift 3. Questions from various topics in physics were as mentioned below:
- Magnetic Effects of Current and Magnetism: 3-4 questions
- Electrostatics: 2-3 questions
- Current & Current Electricity: 5-6 questions
- Optics: Ray & waves - 4-5 questions
- Dual nature of matter and radiation: 2-3 questions
Other important topics from which questions came were - Semiconductor, Atoms and Nuclei, Electromagnetic inductions and Alternating currents, etc.
Chemistry
Similar to day 1 shift 3, the chemistry paper on day 2 - shift 3 has been rated a moderate by the test takers. Questions were directly from the NCERT and were easy to moderate on the difficulty level. Questions from various topics in Chemistry were as mentioned below:
- D and F Block Elements: 4-5 questions
- P Block Elements: 3-4 questions
- Coordination Compounds: Case study - 5 questions
- Aldehydes, Ketones and Carboxylic Acids: Aldehyde 7 amino - 3-4 questions
- Organic Compounds containing nitrogen: 3-4 questions
Other important topics from which questions came were - Solid State, Solutions, Polymers, electrochemistry, Chemistry in everyday life, Biomolecules, etc.
Mathematics
Along with Physics & Chemistry, Maths paper was also scheduled in shift 3 of CUET 2023 day 2. Likewise yesterday, students’ felt that the questions were easy and the extra time (15 mins) provided was of much help. Questions from various topics in Mathematics were as mentioned below:
Section A
- Matrices: 3-4 questions
- Integration: 3-4 questions
- Probability Distributions: 2-3 questions
- Linear Programming: 2-3 questions
- Differential Equations: 2-3 questions
Section B1
- Relations and Functions: 5-6 questions
- Three dimensional geometry: 3-4 questions
- Probability: 3-4 questions
- Differential Equations: 2-3 questions
- Matrices: 2-3 questions
Other important topics from which questions came were - Continuity and Differentiability, Vectors, Application of Derivatives, Integrals & Application of Integrals, Inverse trigo, etc.
Section III: General Test
SHIFT - 1
The students rated the General Test section moderate on Day 2 (shift 1). Questions were based on topics such as Mathematics & Statistics, General Awareness, Discovery & Invention, Logic & Reasoning, and Sports.
The GT paper was very similar to Career Launcher Mocks with questions from elementary mathematics (approximately 20-25), the reasoning part had questions from calender and direction, 12-15 questions from General Awareness (5-6 questions from Geography, 2-3 questions each from economics, History & Science, 1-2 questions each from Discovery & Invention, and Sports).
To give more brief and specific details regarding the types of questions asked in GT, it was a pretty easy and straightforward question.
The broad topics are as follows:
- Science: Molecular mass of D2O, Boric Acid, etc.
- History: Match the following (Battles with their years)
- Economic: Largest exporter of cotton textile
- Books & Authors: India: The Mother of Democracy
- Reasoning: Blood relation, Series, Coding, Clocks and calendar, puzzles, direction, etc.
- Numeric Ability: Geometry (3-4 questions), Mixtures and Alligation (2-3 questions), and 1-2 questions from Mensuration, Percentages, Number system, Algebra, Mean, Median, Mode, Set Theory, Time & Work, Simple Interest and Compound interest.
Overall the student’s experience in the 1st shifts of CUET (UG) 2023 day 2 was more or less easy to moderate.
