CUET 2023 Exam Analysis - (25th May 2023)
Section I: English
SHIFT - 1
The English paper for CUET (UG) 2023, Day 5 (shift 1), followed the trend of the earlier days and the students found the paper to be easy. The questions were very much similar to the Career Launcher Mocks.
15 questions were there from reading comprehension. All 3 were passages and had 5 questions each. The passages were on Gandhi, Fiction, and Teenagers working part-time. The passages were easy to comprehend and the questions were direct. However, the options were very close and one needed to make smart and accurate choices.
Other important topics included:
- Verbs, adjectives, and adverbs were asked in a sentence: 7-8 questions
- Sentence Correction: 3-4 questions
- Indirect speech: 2-3 questions
- Active-passive: 2-3 questions
- Letter-based: Formal letter is written to whom, Salutation (2-3 questions)
- Fill in the blanks with the appropriate word: Modal verb (2-3 questions)
- Synonym & Antonym: Dejure, Forlorn (3-4 questions)
- Word Meaning: 1-2 questions
SHIFT - 2
Continuing the trend from the first shift of the day, the English paper on Day 5 (shift 2), was on the easier lines only. The questions were very direct, straightforward, and easy to attempt.
15 questions were there from reading comprehension. The passages were easy to comprehend and the questions were simple. However, the options were very close.
Other important topics included:
- Verbs, adjectives, and adverbs were asked in a sentence: 5-7 questions
- Spotting errors: 4-5 questions
- Para jumbles: 4-5 questions
- Active-passive voice: 2-3 questions
- Fill in the blanks with the appropriate word: 3-4 questions
- Synonym & Antonym: 3-4 questions
Section II: Domain Subject
Commerce: SHIFT - 1
Accountancy
Accountancy exam on Day 5 - shift 1 was much on the expected lines. According to the students, the questions were based on the NCERT test book only. The paper was rated as easy to moderate on the difficulty level. Questions from various topics were as follows:
- Computerized Accounting system: 7-8 questions
- Statement of changes in financial position: Cash flow statement order and sequence, Interest and tax paid (3-4 questions)
- Analysis of financial statements: Interest in drawings at the beginning of the month (3-4 questions)
- Accounting for Share and Debenture Capital: Case Study (4-5 questions)
- Accounting for Partnership: 3-4 questions
- Reconstitution of Partnership: 3-4 questions
- Accounting-Not for Profit: 2-3 questions
The major classification of question categories/types were - Numericals, Order and Sequence, Case study, etc.
Business Studies
Students were very much satisfied with their experience and performance in the Business Studies paper. More or less, test takers rated the paper to be easy on the difficulty level. Interestingly, there were many similar questions from the Career Launcher Mocks for Business Studies. The questions were broadly from -;
- 5-6 questions each from topics: Organising (Similar to controlling), staffing, Directing, Controlling (Functions of controlling, the process of controlling), and Marketing.
- Planning: Process of planning (4-5 questions)
- Entrepreneurship Development: 3-4 questions
- Principles of Management: Order of principle of management (2-3 questions)
- Nature and Significance of Management: 2-3 questions
- Business Finance & Financial Markets: 5-6 questions
The major classification of question categories/types were -Sequence Wise questions, Match the following, Case Studies, etc.
Applied Mathematics
Similar to the other two commerce stream subjects, student’s didn’t face any difficulty with the Applied Mathematics paper as well. Students were happy to see direct and straightforward questions from the NCERT books. The common conclusion that could be drawn from the student's experience is that the paper was easy. The questions were broadly from -
Section A
- Matrices: 2-3 questions
- Determinants: 2-3 questions
- Probability Distributions: 2-3 questions
- Linear Programming, Differential Equations, & Integration: 1-2 questions each
Section B2
- Probability Distribution: Poisson distribution (4-5 questions)
- Matrices: 3-4 questions
- Boats and Streams: 2-3 questions
- Higher order derivatives: Find the second derivatives (2-3 questions)
- Variance: 5 Numbers and asked the variance (2-3 questions)
- Index Numbers: Some calculation was required (2-3 questions)
- Population and Sample: 2-3 questions
- Time Series: Estimation of square method (2-3 questions)
- Other important topics: Linear Programming, Financial Mathematics, Marginal Cost and Marginal Revenue, Numerical Inequalities, Allegation, and Mixture, etc.
Humanities: SHIFT - 2
History
Students who appeared for History paper on day 5 (shift 2), rated the paper to be on the easier side on difficulty level. A few important topics from where questions came were -
- The Harappan Civilisation
- Mahatma Gandhi and the Nationalist Movement
- An Imperial Capital
- Understanding Partition Politics, Memories, Experiences
- Thinkers, Beliefs, and Buildings Cultural Developments
- Colonial Cities Urbanisation, Planning and Architecture
- Bhakti-Sufi Traditions
- Kinship, Caste, and Class
Political Science
The student's experience with the Political Science paper on Day 5 (shift 2) was mostly easy to moderate only. Questions were mostly based on topics such as -
- Recent Developments in Indian Politics
- Alternative Centers of Power
- The Era of One-Party Dominance
- The End of Bipolarity
- Challenges to the Congress System
- Cold War Era
There were 2-3 questions each from topics such as US Hegemony in World Politics, Politics of Planned Development, Challenges of Nation-Building (Chronological Matching), Contemporary South Asia (Timeline), etc.
Science: SHIFT - 3
Physics
Students were content with the overall experience of the Physics paper today. But, the paper today was slightly on the difficult side compared to other days. Questions from various topics in physics were as mentioned below:
- Current Electricity: Capacitor (5-6 questions)
- Optics: Diffraction, Wave optics covered most parts (7-8 questions)
- Atoms and Nuclei: Lamda, Theoretical were easy (5-6 questions)
- Semiconductor: LED, Solar related questions, (3-4 questions)
Other important topics from which questions came were - Electrostatics, Magnetic Effects of Current and Magnetism, Dual nature of matter and radiation, Electronic devices, etc.
Chemistry
Similar to the previous day, the chemistry paper on day 5 - shift 3 has been rated as easy to moderate by most of the test takers. Reportedly the questions were more or less directly from the NCERT book. Questions from various topics in Chemistry were as mentioned below:
- Electrochemistry: Emf value, reducing power, numerical (3-4 questions)
- D and F Block Elements: Case Study (4-5 questions)
- Alcohols, Phenols, and Ethers: Nucleophilic (3-4 questions)
- Aldehydes, Ketones, and Carboxylic Acids: 3-4 questions
- Biomolecules: Case Study (4-5 questions)
Other important topics from which questions came were - Solid State, Solutions, Surface Chemistry, Isolation of Elements, P Block Elements, Coordination Compounds (Nomenclature), Organic Compounds containing nitrogen, etc.
Biology
The Biology paper on day 5 - shift 3 has been rated as easy by most of the test takers. Reportedly the questions were more or less directly from the NCERT book. Questions from various topics in Biology were as mentioned below:
- Reproduction: Formato genesis, incorrect statements (7-8 questions)
- Genetics and Evolution: 5-6 questions
- Ecology: Majorly plant-related questions (8-9 questions)
- Biotechnology: 5-6 questions
Biology in Human Welfare: Match the following (2-3 questions)
Section III: General Test
SHIFT - 2
The students rated the General Test experience to be easier to moderate on Day 5 (shift 2). Questions were based on topics such as Mathematics & Statistics, General Awareness, Discovery & Invention, Logic & Reasoning, and Sports.
The GT paper was very similar to Career Launcher Mocks with questions from elementary mathematics (approximately 15-20), the reasoning part had questions from calender and direction, (15-18 questions) from General Awareness (4-5 questions) from Geography, (2-3 questions) each from economics, History & Science, (1-2 questions) each from Discovery & Invention, and Sports.
To give more brief and specific details regarding the types of questions asked in GT, it was an easy, but slightly tricky question.

Overall the student’s Day 5 exam experience has been more or less easy to moderate only. As of now, student’s are yet to come across any day or shift where they had any tough or similar experience.
Still, students are advised to continue their preparation as you never know how the next day or shift is going to be. Remain calm and stay focused!
