CUET 2023 Exam Analysis - (30th May 2023)
Section I: Language
English
On day 10, the English paper was slightly on the difficult side compared to the previous days. According to the students, the paper was easy to moderate on the difficulty level. Questions were more or less easy only, but the options were a bit tricky.
There were 3 extracts given for Reading Comprehension, 2 were passages and one was a poem on illness. 5 questions each were asked from the extracts. Other major topics from where questions came were -
- Fill in the blanks: 6-7 questions
- Verbs, adjectives, and adverbs were asked in a sentence: 4-5 questions
- Para jumbles: 3-4 questions
- Antonym: match the following - (Indifferent) - 2-3 questions
- Figures of Speech: 2-3 questions
- Sentence Correction: Finding error (2-3 questions)
- Active-passive: 2-3 questions
- Exclamatory sentence conversion: Exclamatory conversion (2-3 questions)
A few questions were asked from topics such as - Synonym (Deter, inevitable), Idioms and Phrases, Indirect speech (Convert), Adjective based, Foreign words (some el-prime word), Letter based (Sender's address and date related), etc.
Section II: Domain Subject
Humanities
Geography
Students who appeared for the Geography paper on day 10, rated the paper to be easy to moderate in difficulty level. A few important topics from where questions came were -
Fundamentals of Human Geography:
- People: One case study - Age-Sex graph and asked for questions like - This represents developed/undeveloped country, birth rate/death rate question, etc (7-8 questions)
- Human Activities: A map was given - Questions regarding mining town, industrial town, etc, activities like administrative, cantonment associated with places(match the following, questions on primary and secondary activity (7-8 questions)
- Transport, Communication & Trade: Transport not preferred for heavy and bulky loads, Transport suitable for long-distance passenger travel and heavy loads, Chronology of trade up to the development of WTO (4-5 questions)
- Human settlements: Questions related to the division of areas (2-3 questions)
India: People and Economy:
- People: India demographics distribution among coastal plains etc, rural-urban similarity/dissimilarity with respect to certain things, migration(immigrant, emigrant, etc.), Highest female literacy rate (3-4 questions)
- Human settlements: Population density in the urban area etc, Madurai is an ancient/medieval/modern town question (2-3 questions)
- Resources and Development: Identifying the non-conventional form of energy (2-3 questions)
- Transport, Communication and International Trade: Development of Trains in India was done by Britishers for what purpose, Golden quadrilateral Highway connectivity (asked for cities) (2-3 questions)
- Geographical Perspective on selected issues & problems: Acid rain, 4 statements regarding pollution(identifying the incorrect ones) (3-4 questions)
Political Science
Students were very much satisfied with their experience and performance in the Political Science paper. Student’s rated the paper to be easy on the difficulty level. Interestingly, there were many similar questions from previous years’ exams & the Career Launcher Mocks too. The questions were broadly from -
- Security in Contemporary World: Case study - India Security policy passage (6-7 questions)
- India’s External Relations: India-China dispute territory, the liberation of Bangladesh (Who was the Pakistan leader at that time), Tashken agreement between which leaders, India nuclear policy (4-5 questions)
- The End of bipolarity: First country to withdraw from USSR, Timeline of disintegration, Berlin war collapse chronological order (4 questions)
- Alternative centers of Power: ASEAN formation date, 38 parallel devices North Korea and South Korea question, PMs chronological order of India (3-4 questions)
- Regional Aspirations: Mizo rebellion, Assam accord sign (3-4 questions)
- Cold War Era: Chronological order of Cuban missile, NATO formation, Varso pact, new international economic order dates (2-3 questions)
- Contemporary South Asia: INDUS water treaty, SAARC formation date and year (2-3 questions)
- International Organizations: Chronological order League of the nation, UN, WTO (formation date), Nuclear Peace organization (2-3 questions)
- Environment and Natural Resources: Kyoto Protocol (greenhouse gas), Earth Summit in 1992 venue (2-3 questions)
- Challenges of Nation-Building: Arrangement of state formation, First linguistic state in India (2-3 questions)
- Rise of Popular Movements: Dalit panthers were from which state, Bhartiya Kisan Union (2-3 questions)
- Recent Developments in Indian Politics: Shah Bano Case (2-3 questions)
There were also a few questions on topics like - Globalization, Politics of Planned Development, and a passage was there on Indian Security Policy - Emergency Passage(Gujarat System).
Psychology
According to the various inputs received from students, the Psychology paper on Day 10 was easy in difficulty level. Questions were based on various topics such as -
- Variations in Psychological Attributes: Definitions(Intelligence, aptitude, values, Interest), Intelligence definition according to Oxford, Case study - Intelligence and culture (8-9 questions)
- Psychological Disorders: Schizophrenia symptoms, Case study on the psychological disorder (7-8 questions)
- Psychology and Life: Spiritual environment, environmental stressors, crowding tolerance (4-5 questions)
- Self and Personality: Sigmund-Freud, Alfred Waddell, Carl Young theory linking, Behaviourist approach study question] (3-4 questions)
- Therapeutic Approaches: Behavioural, Psychodynamic approach, client-centered theory (3-4 questions)
- Attitude and Social Cognition: Change attitude, 2-step concept, Concept of balance (3-4 questions)
- Meeting Life Challenges: Stress, Lazarus theory (2-3 questions)
- Social Influence and Group Processes: Factors of group formation (1-2 questions)
- Developing Psychological Skill: Asked for skills required by a psychologist (1-2 questions)
Sociology
The sociology exam on Day 10 was the easiest among all the Humanities subjects held. According to the students, the questions were easy and straightforward. The paper was rated as easy on the difficulty level. Questions from various topics were as follows:
- 2 paragraphs - Dalit (Rural & Urban class) - 5
- Property Law (passing of property) - 5
- Matrix event in agricultural terms (What is it called?)
- Process of Cultural Change (chronological order-based question)
- Questions based on the Liberalization process
History
Students who appeared for a History paper on day 10, rated the paper to be on the easier side on difficulty level. A few important topics from where questions came were -
- 2 passages - Indus Valley civilization (5)
- Revolt of 1857 (5)
- Chronological order of movements (3-4)
- Books & translation (Language & Author based)
Commerce
Business Studies
From the experience and inputs received from the students, the Business Studies paper on day 10 had an easy rating. This is the same as the experience of the students on earlier exam days. Questions from various topics in physics were as mentioned below:
- Business Environment: Case Study - GDP, consumer habit, economic policy related case study External Factors affecting business, Dynamic, Uncertain features. A couple of questions regarding the determination of the business environment (7-8 questions)
- Match the following: 7-8 questions
- Staffing: Case Study- Hiring, Direct/indirect recruitment, processes of selection questions, last stage in the process of selection (5-6 questions)
- Sequence Wise questions: 5-6 questions
- HR-related Case study: Case study related to HR (5 questions)
- Planning: Planning process chronology, Policy/rule/strategy match the following, fill in the blank related to planning/strategy (4-5 questions)
- Organizing: Selection of organizing structure type questions, 1 question each on delegation and decentralization (3-4 questions)
- Directing: Elements of direction, communication, and hindrance in communication (3-4 questions)
- Business Finance: High rate of return with different criteria results on capital, Capital Budgeting question (2-3 questions)
- Financial Markets: Stock exchange feature, SEBI full form (2-3 questions)
- Marketing: Match the following - Product, production, marketing and sales strategy, Sender-message-medium-receiver-feedback chronology question (2-3 questions)
There were also a few questions from topics such as - Principles of Management (Father of scientific management), Controlling, Consumer Protection (What does not come under consumer protection), Entrepreneurship Development (Entrepreneurship development organization in India), Case Studies, etc.
Applied Mathematics
Students were very much happy with their Business Studies exam experience on CUET exam day 10. Most of them rated the test to be easy in difficulty level, as many questions were directly from NCERT. The questions were similar to the Career Launcher mocks. Important topics from where questions came majorly are -
- Matrices: Skew symmetric, Inverse (4-5 questions)
- Maxima and Minima: Maximum and Minimum value from a quadratic equation and graph (4-5 questions)
- Probability Distribution: "2 dices are rolled, then 3 multiple X=0, P(x) table" (3-4 questions)
- Linear Programming: 3-4 questions
- Variance: "Standard variance & standard deviation questions" (2-3 questions)
- Population and Sample: Not a statistic, formula (2-3 questions)
- Partnerships: Distribution of Profit and investment (2 questions)
- Boats and Streams: 2 questions
A few other significant topics from where questions came were - Modulo Arithmetic (Multiplicative modulo), Allegation and Mixture (Forming of mixture), Pipes and Cisterns (Filling of a tank (3 person, 2 are filling and 1 is emptying), Races and Games, Marginal Cost and Marginal Revenue, Index Numbers, Time Series, etc.
Section III: General Test
The General Test paper didn’t differ much from the trend set by the earlier exam days. The test takers rated the paper to be easy in difficulty level. Questions were a bit tricky which tested the knowledge and presence of mind of the students. On a broader scale, the questions were majorly from the following three topics -
General Awareness (12-15 questions)
- Current Affairs: Schemes related matching with the year (2-3 questions)
- Sports: Mithali Raj has played how many world cups, T20 World Cup 2022 winner
- Books and Authors
- Science: Atmospheric pressure is measured by which device
- Geography: National park(animals matching)
- Economics: Economics theory given by whom question(2-3 questions)
- Inventions and Discoveries
- Polity
Numerical Ability (20-25 questions)
- Percentage: 2-3 questions
- Ratio and Proportion: Partnership(2-3), Simple ratio questions (5-6 questions)
- Time and Work: pipe & cistern, 18 men can do a work in 360 days (2-3 questions)
- Time, Speed and Distance: Question on relative speed concept (2-3 questions)
- Area & Volume: CSA was given, asked the radius (2-3 questions)
- CI and SI: All CI, given the final amount and principal and asked for the interest rate (3 questions)
- Geometry: Angle was asked
- Boats-upstream & downstream
- Average: Weight related average question
Logical Reasoning (15-20 questions)
- Series: 50,100,200… (4-5 questions)
- Coding: E=5, PEN = 35 then pink is (something like this) - 2-3 questions
- Visual Reasoning: Next image from a given set of image
- Puzzles
- Clocks: 16 minutes delay - what will be the time after 4 days at 5PM
- Direction
- Calendars: Today's day is given and asked for the day after 60 days
- Blood Relations
- Venn Diagram
- Missing number
Overall the student’s Day 10 (shifts 1, 2, & 3) exam experience has been more or less easy to moderate only. Students are advised to continue their preparation as you never know how the next day or shift is going to be.
